@Ti_Enjoli At my company, postdocs make more money than entry level level scientists, but less than senior scientists with extended postdoc experience. They receive vacation+bonus options, easier hrs and workload than academic postdocs and publish. They advance w/i 1-2y—which is fast.

@Ti_Enjoli So, no one thought it was weird that you had access to the lab but weren’t officially associated with the university?!? I didn’t see any temporary solutions offered in those emails either—seems that they have no experience or desire to have postdocs with prestigious awards…

@Ti_Enjoli My apartment uses this sort of of stupid system for water and some weird HVAC fee. I even have this weird fee that all residents contribute to for the building utilities. I’ve asked multiple times why the building utility fee exists when we pay $$$$ for rent!

@KYT_ThatsME Maybe it’s because I don’t work in Cali or Boston, but our numbers in the lab are basically like those at our grad school or a little worse.

@KYT_ThatsME It’s been a little over a year now. In case you’re wondering, all the Black scientists forced from the academic pipeline are NOT in pharma…

@KYT_ThatsME I guess they don’t technically force you, but perception of you as a “team player” goes into your quarterly evaluations and project assignments. Advice from successful senior colleagues: Lose the earbuds and increase your visibility…🙄

@KYT_ThatsME I’ve really noticed that this extra chit chat seems pretty essential in corporate to advance your career internally. From what I’ve seen so far, the people who are diligent with their work but quiet get stuck…

@Lee_JenYi @abiochick Gaithersburg is a great area in itself with a lot of options. For a larger city, North Rockville is a great option. If you are near 270, it's a reverse commute to Gaithersburg, easy 15-20 drive.

Twitter friends—I need help! I’m moving to the DMV area for a job in Gaithersburg. Any guidance on the ideal location for a young (single) professional to live—with a “moderate” commute—would be greatly appreciated.

@abiochick Rockville is a great place and it has a metro stop. In between Gaithersburg and DC.

@Ti_Enjoli @LoriGetsCrunk @DrCABerry If you’re staying in academic research, I think there is a higher likelihood of you getting an LRP funded than presidential intervention....
