🚨BREAKING | 🎙GARY NEVILLE DROPS BOMBSHELL: Arsenal Could Face Points Deduction If VAR Controversy Is ‘Properly Looked Into. This Changes Everything. Look, I called the decision ‘spot on’ on the night because, technically, Pablo Felipe did impede David Raya. But if the Premier League and the FA actually sit down and properly look into the full context of that corner… Arsenal could be in real trouble. We’re talking about a potential points deduction here if they decide the referee and VAR got the law application wrong under the new guidelines. Two points? Maybe even three. This isn’t just a disallowed goal – this could be the moment that hands the title to someone else. I’m not saying it will happen… but if it gets reviewed properly, Arsenal might not be safe. If they start opening the floodgates and reviewing every single late goal VAR call like this, then yes – Arsenal could face a deduction. It would be unprecedented, but we’ve seen stranger things in football. The fans deserve clarity. Right now, that three points feels… provisional.

To highlight how ordinary Arteta’s Arsenal have been, Brendan Rodgers — now mocked by Liverpool fans — led a 2013/14 side to 84 points and 101 goals, finishing 2nd. Arsenal are on just 79 points with only 68 goals. That’s why this Arsenal team is arguably the weakest Premier League winners in history.

Let me help you all clarify : During a corner kick, the ball is typically in the air or being delivered, so the foul usually involves an attacker pulling, holding, or impeding the goalkeeper’s movement as he tries to claim or punch the ball. If this foul occurs in the build-up to a goal: • The goal is disallowed. • Play restarts with a direct free kick to the defending team (from the location of the foul, often inside the penalty area). Simple shirt-tugging or brief contact does not automatically qualify as a foul. The contact must impede the opponent’s movement or ability to play the ball. theifab.com PGMOL’s Application and Guidance (Premier League Specific) PGMOL (the body responsible for refereeing standards in English professional football) issues a Competition Guidance Handbook each season with detailed principles for officials and VAR. For 2025/26, there is enhanced focus on holding and grappling at set pieces (including corners), following feedback from clubs, players, and captains. The aim is greater consistency while maintaining a high threshold for penalising contact—not every bit of physicality is a foul. resources.premierleague.pulselive.com Key principles for challenges on goalkeepers (directly from PGMOL guidance): • All players have a right to their position on the field; simply being in the way is not the same as moving into the way. • High threshold for penalising contact (foul). • Clear action and impact are required. Considerations for penalising (i.e., when it becomes a foul): • Attackers who only focus on the goalkeeper and pay no attention to challenging for the ball, where the contact clearly impacts the goalkeeper’s ability to make a save or challenge for the ball. • Unfair contact that involves no attempt to play the ball and/or a non-footballing action. • Sustained or impactful holding (e.g., pulling with both arms, dragging the keeper, or holding that restricts movement). • Examples of what tips it into a foul: the attacker is not looking at the ball, uses both arms, or the action clearly prevents the keeper from reaching the delivery. What is usually allowed (play on): • Mutual or simultaneous actions (both players grappling similarly). • Fleeting contact with no material impact on the keeper’s ability to play the ball. • Legitimate attempts to challenge for the ball alongside incidental contact. This guidance applies equally whether the foul is by an attacker on the goalkeeper (as in the West Ham vs Arsenal incident you referenced) or in other set-piece grappling. The emphasis in recent seasons has been to reduce “extreme non-footballing actions” at corners while avoiding over-penalisation. resources.premierleague.pulselive.com VAR’s Role in These Incidents VAR does not re-referee every corner. It only intervenes for clear and obvious errors (or serious missed incidents) in the four main reviewable categories, including goal/no goal decisions. In practice for corner-kick fouls on the goalkeeper: • The on-field referee makes the initial call (or misses it). • VAR reviews the build-up to any goal using multiple camera angles and slow motion. • If VAR identifies a clear and obvious foul (meeting the PGMOL criteria above) that the referee missed or misjudged, they recommend a review. • The referee may then go to the pitchside monitor or accept the VAR advice. • Outcome: Goal disallowed + free kick to the defending team.

🚨 JUST IN: West Ham are set to contact referees’ body PGMOL after their late equaliser against Arsenal was disallowed. The club will raise concerns and request further clarification over the controversial decision. West Ham will also ask for the audio between referee Chris Kavanagh and VAR Darren England. [@BBCMOTD] More clubs need to follow this approach if the league genuinely wants to eliminate bias and deliberate inconsistency in refereeing decisions.

You don’t go to a game that will define your whole season with no fire in your belly. With all the bottler name tag and history at your doorstep… you play the opposition to submission. Ask yourselves, what if the goal was given yesterday.. ? What excuses would you have given your children that you bottled the title twice because you lack the balls to impose your game on the one important game of your season? Wake up

@Arsenal and Arteta caused all this with the approach thet gave a match that could have ended their season. Arteta was obviously confused as shown in his substitutions because all his tactics are defensive and game management. No fire in the players belly to finish off the game so they won't have to regret end of game situation like what happened. Doesn't make sense and not sure the players want to win anything. You have crucial season defining game and you are gambling with luck and playing sideways and backwards inviting disaster. They were just lucky. Shame

In the immediate aftermath of West Ham United’s controversial loss to Arsenal, Jarrod Bowen launched the protests at the officials, Tomas Soucek and Callum Wilson pleaded for answers, while an incandescent Mads Hermansen repeatedly wagged his finger and had to be ushered away. “If you ask any goalkeeper in the league if he’s been illegally blocked, pulled, pushed on corners this season, you will not find anyone who has not experienced this,” Hermansen told The Athletic after West Ham United loss to Arsenal. “I don’t understand why it’s given today. It’s been (lawless) for many situations and that’s just why I don’t understand why it’s been called in this situation.” The 1-0 defeat leaves Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in the relegation zone, one point behind 17th-placed Tottenham Hotspur who have a game in hand. While a lot can still change in the next two weeks, it is worth highlighting there is no use of VAR in the Championship. Perhaps that is the only small comfort West Ham can take for potential life in the second tier. 📝 @RoshaneSport Free to read 🆓 bit.ly/4dkJLbC

@Arsenal @WestHam @ManCity Yeah we all saw it… Evidence are clear to see and the law is clear about pushing, shoving and how distinct it is from preventing the goalkeeper from catching the ball by pulling and holding his hand. Complete waste of time. Agenda all because of Arsenal’s involvement. Obstructing a goalkeeper during corners is a foul if an opponent unfairly impedes, grabs, pushes, or blocks the goalkeeper from challenging for the ball. While legal jostling occurs, players cannot legally restrict the goalkeeper's movement, and in 2026, experts suggest referees must penalize "dirty" blocking tactics. Key Rules Regarding Obstruction: Illegal Impeding: A foul is called if a player grabs, pushes, or runs into the keeper to prevent them from moving to the ball.Controlling the Ball: The keeper is most protected while in control/possession of the ball.6-Yard Box Myth: There is no specific rule protecting the goalkeeper only inside the 6-yard box, but rather a general rule against impeding them anywhere. Ref Practice: Referees are encouraged to manage the space, particularly for corner kicks, warning players to allow the keeper to move freely. 2025/2026 Updates: The IFAB indicates that if an opponent prevents the keeper from releasing the ball after they have it in their hands, a direct or indirect free kick should be awarded. What is NOT Illegal:Merely standing in front of the keeper to block their line of sight is generally not a foul.Fair shoulder-to-shoulder contact (jostling) without excessive force. Consequences:An indirect free kick is awarded to the defending team if the referee determines the keeper was unfairly obstructed.
