@Jason_To 💯 agree. I heard this recently as well. I thought of ALL the things we should be watering (supporting), it’s THOSE people. For the sake of students, and those professionals.

“Don’t water the rocks” is a term I hear sometimes from school & system leaders. It means don’t bother supporting staff who won’t listen. I never liked this phrase. Just like how teachers shouldn’t give up on students, leaders shouldn’t give up on educators. There are no rocks.

@JaelRichardson @kmlovesjc Same! This is refreshing to hear. I just assumed I must be the only one, and I have begun to wonder how I sound to others.

@kmlovesjc I’ve had some weird interactions with friends over the last few years and I find that I just generally feel/seem misunderstood about things that seem totally clear and reasonable to me. I also find that what I want from friends isn’t what others are maybe offering?

For the record, I’m 43 years old and I think I don’t know how to do friendship. I seem to be getting it all wrong. I’m not asking for more friends or even solutions. Just processing out loud.

Sometimes, to focus on more explicit thinking, we ignore the subtle, often viewed as mundane part of thinking in think-alouds (such as pauses, hmms, hesitations, short wonderings/questions etc., ) These are essential & can be transformative for Ss in terms of dispelling misconceptions about what effective thinking in math entails.

@Bell @Canada The fact that we do not have nation-wide free access to captioning landline phones is disgraceful. I can no longer call my aging mother bc she can’t hear on the phone,& doesn’t have a cell. We should have landline options. Do better.

Whether we like it or not, the assessment criteria we use in mathematics continually answers the question, What is mathematics? for our students each day. We need to select and co-construct criteria with care.
