Registration is now open for the conference "Puzzles in the Quantum Gravity Landscape: viewpoints from different approaches". Besides plenary talks, plenty of time will be devoted to discussions at the interface between QG and EFT. indico.global/event/17643/

@ThomasVanRiet2 Agree with the overall message of the post, but as a note, asymptotic safety is not ok with any matter content. E.g., too many fermions/scalars would destroy the fixed point/UV completion arxiv.org/pdf/1311.2898 (this is 1 famous paper, but there are many)

I'm again seeing a surge of string theory criticism. As usual it's either: "ST is wrong since we don't observe extra dimensions or supersymmetry" 🤡 or the opposite "string theory can predict everything. So it's not physics". 🙈 Funny enough both camps are happy with the other.

I just supported a crucial cause that aims to enhance scientific education in Palestine. Every bit helps. Please consider sharing or donating. It really makes a difference. gofund.me/5c0f2804

@stringking42069 @AlessandroStru4 I think you are very confused about what Asymptotic Safety is! :D (maybe you are referring to quadratic gravity). I suggest you to always look for some literature before publicly embarrassing yourself!

@stringking42069 Apparently, you are among those who need to read the lectures from top to bottom ;) "fuq" highlights the unprofessional and empty nature of your statement. The existence of biases in QG (of which you just provided evidence) highlights the need for programs like the Nordita one!

@AlessandroStru4 @stringking42069 Most of the criticisms are misconceptions that have been clarified both with John (see for instance his new statements on AS in recent papers, which are different than in that old paper) and in this paper: arxiv.org/abs/2004.06810 More work is of course needed (as in any field).

The "Lectures in Quantum Gravity" and the "Visions in Quantum Gravity" are out! These are two contributions associated with the Nordita Scientific Program "Quantum Gravity: from gravitational EFTs to UV complete approaches". Enjoy the read!

@ThomasVanRiet2 yes! Higgs mass arXiv:0912.0208, top mass arXiv:1707.01107, but also quark masses' difference arXiv:1803.04027.

Physics is not just about observables, but also about computables. Like entropy. And entropy considerations lead to clear tensions for alternatives to string theory such as loop quantum gravity or asymptotic safety.

@ThomasVanRiet2 This does not exclude that there are other "consistency bubbles" in the space of QG theories, where things work differently. One should always investigate all seemingly consistent frameworks and be open-minded! [sorry for the multiple replies, apparently X forbids long texts]

@ThomasVanRiet2 I cannot find anymore your comment about coincidences, that I saw previously from my phone. I also do not believe in coincidences, so if ST can compute and match those 2 coeffs, that is great, and supports both ST consistency and the standard thermodynamical interpretation of BHs

@ThomasVanRiet2 @malcfairbairn There are stronger conceptual arguments that BH thermodynamics is "different" in AS, but I do not want to spoil too much of my upcoming paper :) (also, there are assumptions behind, and one can discuss their validity as well).

Could this be the coolest thing ever? Yes, it could! Another great video by @skydivephil featuring @abplatania and @AstridEichhorn on one of the most attractive and minimalistic approaches to quantum gravity
