The Black, Southern cuisine that Chef Damarr Brown learned growing up in Harvey has made Hyde Park’s Virtue one the hottest spots in Chicago — and made him a success on "Top Chef." bit.ly/3PanW09

Deer Song is out now. I joke that this is my break-up song w/ Chicago. It's about transition, starting over, and going home. I tried out 3 choruses before this one clicked, almost abandoned the song altogether. Hope you like it :) fauvely.bandcamp.com/track/deer-song

@abrochu I help and fund tons of entrepreneurs, tons of clients of Tock, and people in other industries. But I don't fund the wannabe's. People either are or are not willing to learn.

I'm convinced some business owners *enjoy* being stubborn more than they want to be successful. "At least I did it my way," is not some sort of victory mantra as you shut down. I genuinely do not understand that mindset.

@nickkokonas Was I not willing to learn? Or did I just not drink enough of the kool-aid?

@nickkokonas They are subsidized by investors. Investors that you know and built relationships with before you were working for 5.35. We all start somewhere. I agree with what your saying. I just think you forgot who you were at 5.35/hr

@abrochu I started out working at $5.35 per hour just like you. I iterated and innovated in that industry as well. None of our places have ever been subsidized by me... they're subsidized by profits stemming from innovation and a willingness to change while seeing the world as it is.

@nickkokonas You’re going to crush me from a narrative standpoint here. I know that, however, you also post stuff like this and compile forget what it’s like to be a wannabe entrepreneur. It’s easy to load up the quotes when you haven’t been there in years, or ever.

@nickkokonas As long as you have the “money” you can be “bullheaded”. At least that’s what I saw at TAG

Losing your restaurant before it even had a chance, to no longer have the keys to your first dream, to not get to celebrate it’s 1st birthday. I’m fighting for anyway to keep it alive. I’m pitching it to anyway who will listen. Keeping my head down & work. Shitty fucking times.

What do you get when a fancy Fulton Market chef takes over a Devil Dawgs spot for the summer? Creatively topped hot dogs, old-school smash burgers and fried chicken sandwichs. Former Roister chef Andrew Brochu pops up with Friend of the Devil. chicagotribune.com/dining/ct-food…

Despite all the time that’s been lost, we can still make real progress against the virus, protect people from the economic fallout, and more safely approach something closer to normal if we start making better policy decisions now. vox.com/2020/5/13/2124…
