Meanwhile, unstrategic hoofs create bad second-ball nets. If you're trying to build out, but your simple touches are off, and then you hoof it, you are hoofing to a single player without the 'cocoon' you’d get with a planned long ball. Gabriel has really struggled this year.

If you hit it just to get rid of it, not only is Gyökeres highly unlikely to win the high ball, but the midfield is deep to receive, and the full-backs are on the touchlines, so the distances are too far to pick it up.

People get hung up on messaging, mentality, “bottle” etc.
I’m not saying it doesn’t matter. But for me, more than managers, or tactics, or mentality or anything else, talent wins trophies. the most talented teams win stuff. And our attacking talent isn’t currently anywhere near the level.
In general, one of the strongest & fairest criticisms that I’ve heard about this current “project” has been the way we’ve approached attacking recruitment. I don’t think we’ve gotten it right after multiple attempts & I feel like that’s where we could fall short of our goals more than anything else
