@jaltma Family is my North Star. If in moments of imbalance I’m losing touch with them, I know I have to tilt back and nurture more there. It’s the one part of life I can never do over, so I try to never lose sight of that.

A balanced life has work, friends, family, health, hobbies, etc. An imbalanced life goes very deep in one at the expense of the rest. I think you want life to have chapters of balance and imbalance. Happiness comes from balance, progress comes from imbalance.

A nice older guy came by to fix a broken gate at our house. I would have guessed he was maybe 70 or 75. Turned out he was 87 and has been doing this for over 60 years. I asked him how much longer he was going to do it for and he said “as long as my wife lets me, I think whenever I stop I’ll have maybe one more year to live.” He seemed happy and strong. I think this is the goal instead of retirement.
