Calling it just "idealism" only shows they haven't really grasped the story at all. Denji was ready to give up his good life and break his promise with Makima just for Reze. And Reze braved being hunted down by both her own country and Makima, all for Denji.
By the beach at the end, they truly understood each other completely. Denji knew Reze had come to kill him, yet he still believed she truly cared for him. And Reze never doubted that Denji would be waiting for her at that café. Even though she told him to be sensible and look out for himself, deep down she still chose to risk everything to go back to him. To me, this is far more than just simple "idealism".

@handd_craftedd Yes they both realized the connection with each other was more important than whatever lifestyle they preferred 😭

@aceneroX To me, it's not just that they chose, it's that they chose the road less travelled. Reze chose to give up the easy, quiet escape to come back, and Denji chose to give up the life he thought gave him everything he wanted. That's what made it tragic to me.
English

@you932510 It’s more incredible when you realize he’s was living his peak life in Public Safety with Makima, Aki, and Power. He really chose to forget his city mouse life he wanted so Reze wouldn’t be alone 😭
English

I think you’re quite right.
It’s truly beautiful that these two, who have always been treated as mere expendables, made a choice for each other that transcended even their organisations and values.
Reze was confronted with the difference in values between a country mouse and a city mouse, yet she still chose to walk alongside him.
Denji later tells Kobeni, with a touch of self-deprecation, that he’s always left his choices up to others.
But running away with Reze and looking after his depleted Power those were choices he made of his own free will, weren’t they.
He was able to clearly express his intentions for the sake of the person he cared about…

@Saveplayto It’s so beautiful. People want to say Reze and Denji’s relationship is “idealistic”. But I literally can’t think of anything more grounded than two people seeing each other’s flaws and still choosing to ignore their dreams to connect with each other

Many are drawn to the dazzling effects and visuals of the battles, but what touches my heart most is that girl—who, knowing full well the danger ahead, still chose to come and meet Denji, simply because she wanted to see him. And I cherish that boy even more: sitting by the café table, holding the flowers, waiting from morning till night with all his heart. In that moment, he stood closest to happiness. No longer following anyone else’s orders—this time, of his own free will, he chose the happiness named Reze.
English

@Darkdragon9611 This is true. All Makima did was sit back and let things unfold. At least if they were to meet in the reset world, it’s more evidence that they would instantly connect again.
English

What makes it also touching and yet so heartbreaking is that this arc is the one and possibly only time that Makima had no control over and Reze was a legitimate wildcard. One who nearly threw her machinations off as she had convinced Denji, the boy she fell in love with, to run away with her.
Alas, it just wasn’t meant to be…
