Just found out that @joaquinwilde_ of the LWO (WWE's Latino World Order) is Filipino American ✊🇵🇭 And honestly? Getting mistaken for another ethnicity is one of the most Filipino things I can think of.

@pjmegaw i would take it even further and say you don't even neeeed to use the dmg's items. they're nice to have, for sure, but you can run a complete game without them!

Legit the only thing you need the dnd 5e dmg for is Magic items. 80% of rules are in the PHB. And most things are just suggestions or variant rules. Which should just be in the PHB anyway.

Replaying Red Dead Redemption 2, and I'm so rusty on controls. Every time I rescue a stranger and press L2 to talk to them, I point my sawed-off at their face. They don't like that.

@pjmegaw @sneakernetmusic Agreed. To be fair, the new Weapon Mastery Properties seem like an attempt to remedy this! Haven't tried them, but i do hope they make more weapon choices feel viable and fun

@sneakernetmusic @aceofsquares But like this is a huge flaw in dnd 5e.....their weapons suck. Besides rogues for sneak attack the only trait that matters is damage whether one handed or two. And all of those weapons that are one handed cap out at d8. It doesn't feel like there's any reason to use weapons.

The term "Monk weapons" always felt too vague to me in D&D 5e. The 2024 rules do improve this by clarifying to "Simple weapons and Martial weapons that have the Light property", but it still feels a bit like a logic puzzle? Should "monk weapon" just be a tag/property Like Light?

@sneakernetmusic @pjmegaw Mechanically, agreed with all the above! It feels like they wanted to incorporate the fantasy of a martial artist who uses unique styles of weapons, and rather than designing those special weapons, they just said "you can re-flavor flails as nunchucks if you want🤷‍♂️"

@pjmegaw @aceofsquares It depends. At early levels, you roll a d4 for unarmed strike, while weapons like a quarterstaff (which qualify) will net you a d6 or d8. After a while, though, you're absolutely right: your unarmed die goes up as you level, do6 eventually you need SPECIAL weapons to outclass it.
