As climate ambition accelerates globally, the gap between commitments and real world delivery remains a defining challenge, particularly for African economies balancing development priorities. This roundtable brings together policy experts, analysts, and practitioners to explore how innovation can move beyond ideas into practical and scalable solutions. Held on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings, it offers a timely space for candid discussion on what it takes to deliver effective climate action. “From Innovation to Implementation: Rethinking Climate Action Through an African Policy Lab” will examine how governance, institutional capacity, and inclusive systems can unlock real progress. The session will look at the structural barriers that slow implementation while highlighting practical approaches that align climate goals with economic growth and energy security. Convened by leading policy institutions, the event aims to promote a more coordinated and execution focused approach to climate action. By bringing together stakeholders across sectors, it seeks to bridge the gap between ambition and results, advancing a more resilient and inclusive climate agenda for Africa. Future of Energy Conference 2025 was not just another conference. It was a moment to reflect on how Africa can move beyond the resource paradox by leveraging innovation to finance the continent’s energy future through unlocking investments for energy access and economic transformation. Building on the insights and commitments from 2025, the 2026 Future of Energy Conference takes the conversation further focusing on the structural drivers of energy costs, infrastructure readiness, and industrial energy competitiveness. The goal is clear: to ensure that Africa’s value addition and industrialisation ambitions are not just envisioned, but practically achievable. Today is World NGO Day (February 27), a global moment to say thank you to organisations working in the trenches of humanity. This year’s theme, “Restoring Dignity through Inclusion,” reflects the work of NGOs worldwide, including the Africa Centre for Energy Policy, as we advocate for inclusive energy access for the over 600 million Africans without electricity and left out of development. We celebrate NGOs everywhere for restoring dignity and driving real change. #WorldNGODay #NGOsMatter #RestoringDignity #Inclusion #EnergyAccess

Mining Indaba concluded on a highly positive note for ACEP. We entered into a strategic partnership with the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD to support the rollout of The African Minerals Development Center's Afro-Hackathon initiative. This initiative is aligned with the African Mining Vision, which seeks to leverage Africa’s mineral resources to drive broad-based, inclusive, and sustainable development across the continent. The Afro-Hackathon aims to showcase and strengthen the capabilities of local enterprises while promoting innovation-led growth. ACEP’s Innovation Challenge, selected academic institutions, and regional innovation hubs including the UNDP-supported Timbuktu MineTech Hub and University Innovation Pods (UNiPods) will be leveraged to deliver projects focused on lithium-ion battery technologies. Stay tuned for more on the Afro-Hackathon initiative and its role in shaping conversations around the Continental Extractive Industries Programme (CEIPS).
