Statement from the Association of Caribbean Media Workers on the barring of #MediaWorkers by the Government of #Grenada

Statement by the Media Association of Grenada following the barring of media workers from state event.

The ACM offers its condolences to Nylah's family and friends at this time.

Even though Nylah left mainstream media, she followed with keen interest many issues that affect journalists and journalism throughout the region and remained in touch providing support to her colleagues in many ways.

The ACM remembers Nylah as a relentless activist in the promotion of press freedom.

Nylah was responsible for the development of ACM's logo. For many years she offered her support to ACM in the form of guidance as well as to assist with planning and logistics for many of ACM activities.

Nylah was also present for the development of the ACM in 2000 as part of a number of collaborative activities aimed at birthing a regional media body.

The Association of Caribbean Media Workers mourns the death of colleague, journalist, communicator and activist Nylah Ali whose sudden passing has shocked her media colleagues in and around the Caribbean.

Gibbings was elected by virtual vote involving more than 100 organisations spanning the globe. He is now part of a team of 13 free expression and press freedom advocates from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

@PressAssnJa strongly condemns last night’s attack on journalists at the PNP HQ.

Likewise, @RELE_CIDH recalls that States have the obligation to generate the necessary conditions and create a protected environment for the exercise of #FreedomExpression, so that a broad, plural, and open deliberation on public affairs can take place.

In the spirit of this commitment, @RELE_CIDH calls on the authorities to investigate these reports and reminds that stigmatizing statements can create or accentuate an atmosphere of hostility, intolerance, or animosity by different sectors of the population against the press.
