Elder Gordon B. Hinckley, then a member of the Quorum of the 12, some years ago called my father to be a Stake President. That Sunday, in between some stake meetings, Elder Hinckley and my father were walking down a hallway in the stake center. Elder Hinckley had his arm looped around my father’s arm. Suddenly, my father said he was jerked to the left as Elder Hinckley pulled him into the men’s restroom. President, (it helps if you imagine President Hinckley’s wonderful voice here 😄), “President, I’m going to give you some advice and counsel that has served me well over the years. You will now be spending a lot of time in meetings. Those meetings can be very long. Sometimes during those meetings you will have wished you had visited a restroom before the meeting began. Here is my counsel. Never walk by a restroom even if you don’t feel the urge. At some point you will be glad you made the stop.” Pretty wise counsel from President Hinckley. I, myself have tried to follow that counsel. He wasn’t wrong. 😃 I loved President Hinckley.

Utah lawmakers are advancing a new plan to lower gas prices by 6 cents a gallon. The proposal comes months after Republicans floated ending a refinery tax break that would have saved drivers as much as 20 cents a gallon. H.B. 575 is where Republicans say they could find consensus with stakeholders, though the reduction is lower than first hoped. The bill would set the state gas tax at 31.9 cents per gallon, about 16% below the current 37.9 cent rate. Lawmakers say the move is meant to give drivers relief, increase supply and boost production. The bill also requires refineries to report production data and creates a faster permitting process for pipelines and fuel infrastructure to be used in future gas tax planning. Today’s AAA national gas average is $2.92 a gallon. Utah’s average is $2.72 a gallon.
