TLDR: There are still "Loyal Sons Forever True" out there. I've seen a lot of chatter about the lyrics from our fight song, "Loyal Sons Forever True." For some returning players on the team, those words still carry real meaning. Not everything comes down to money or status. Reflecting on my own career, I didn't get an offer from Iowa State coming out of high school. I went the JUCO route to earn a scholarship and play for the school I loved and was loyal to, a school where my late father and I shared a dream that I'd one day wear the Cardinal and Gold before he passed while I was in high school. While at JUCO, bigger and more "successful" programs showed interest and made offers. One Oregon coach even tried to talk me out of Iowa State, insisting I'd have greater success with the Ducks. Nope. I wanted to play for Coach Rhoads at Iowa State. I had the privilege to put on that uniform, fulfill a dream, and learn from Coach Bray before he passed. Later, I had an NFL opportunity as well. But once I reached that level, I felt content with what I'd achieved in athletics. My athletic dream was fulfilled, the lessons and times throughout my athletic career and at Iowa State gave me the path to go pursue and conquer other mountains in life. Money and fame never drove me. I truly believe we'll continue to see Cyclones who feel the same way. Things might feel bumpy right now, but it'll smooth out. There are still plenty of "loyal forever true" Cyclones out there.
