Surely this overly reductive take has to have a line drawn somewhere in it too, right? Who does a game belong to? What individual gets to make the rules? Who is the singular owner of Crash who gets to decide its usage? Well we're who made the gif at least, no mystery about it.

We don't disagree with this notion entirely. Gif makers didn't make the games for which they're gifing, but surely if it's some meaningless, insignificant little thing then there wouldn't be any need to shamelessly repost other people's gifs for clout? Could easily make their own
