3-week mark in sf. here’s what i’ve learned building @useopencompany : everyone is cooking with the same water. there’s no magic at any frontier lab or company. the ideas exist, the research exists - most of the work we admire is just ingredients packaged in a way that clicked with the zeitgeist. that was empowering. it means you can compete at the ground level if you’re willing to do the work. our honest miss: we tried too many things at once. we chased magic instead of shipping. the lesson is boring but true. less, but better. so now: launch. this week. broken is fine. ugly is fine. charge money from day one. talk to every user. iterate aggressively. we are nothing until strangers use our product and pay for it. everything else is foundation, not the thing itself.
