*Khuphuka Friday is here! 💚🇿🇦* Today is a proud day for South Africa. The Phala Phala ruling is a victory for accountability, transparency, and the rule of law. No one is above the law; including the Head of State. #KhuphukaFridays

“ActionSA celebrates the ruling of the Constitutional Court handed down today as a victory for the South African people. Now is the time for parties in the GNU, who have gone silent on Phala Phala since they have entered government, to demonstrate whether they will act for South Africans or themselves.” - @ME_Beaumont, ActionSA National Chairperson 🔗 Read more: actionsa.org.za/victory-for-ac…

I am at the Constitutional Court where ActionSA believes the Constitutional Court will find parliament to have acted unconstitutionally to protect President Ramaphosa from accountability. We can never fix our rule of law when Number 1 avoids accountability.

Before the crisis reached this point, @Action4SA raised the alarm. 1. We engaged the Bargaining Council. We wrote to the Speaker’s Office. 2. We engaged the City Manager. 3. We warned that the City of Johannesburg was already under severe financial strain and could not continue making reckless commitments without a clear funding plan. At the time, the ANC-led administration under Mayor Dada Morero pushed ahead with a R10 billion wage agreement, despite the city already struggling to fulfil its most basic service delivery obligations. We asked a simple but necessary question: how will the city fund this agreement sustainably? No clear answers were provided. Today, Johannesburg finds itself exactly where we warned it would end up. A city facing deep financial distress.
Funzi Ngobeni@Funzi_Ngobeni

In a desperate attempt to secure political support, particularly ahead of elections, the ANC has made reckless and unrealistic promises to workers, committing the City to a R10.3 billion wage agreement without any credible funding plan The city now finds itself at a brink of financial collapse and they cannot commit to the false promises they made

Pieter du Toit’s editorial, entitled “Acid ActionSA’s Biggest Test and Mending Relations with Zille and the DA”, requires a response more considered than his own. actionsa.org.za/correcting-pie… This is the case when senior editors pursue a political agenda, which explains why they turn over political editors faster than MK turns over SGs.
