@kri28726 anyway yeah no i don't disagree with you abt the writing or their intention behind clark as a character. Chiwetel Ejiofor did an awesome job I just think that this movie was not thought through fully

@kri28726 even if it wasn't intentional and just how casting went, it is still something that they should have caught or been aware of. racial tensions/relations is a hallmark of the genre and should not be ignored just because it's not what the writers intended.

#backrooms was not a good movie. It was fun, it was visually appealing, but that is not enough to make a movie good. it had very weak writing, bad pacing, and weird racial implications.

@kri28726 There are horror movies that have black men who are violent towards white women (Candyman, 1992). But those movies also know WHY they're doing that, it's very charged and important. Clark and Mary do not feel like they have that same intention and thus, come off poorly to me.

@kri28726 horror is historically a very racially charged genre. Clark was the only POC in the movie + an antagonist. In a genre where we are supposed to look at subtext and symbolism, things like this are very important to take note of.

@kri28726 angry alcoholic black man with a white wife who he was aggressive towards holds a calm, quite white woman hostage. further, the disfigured version of clark chasing her around to (presumably) eat her, with him falling violently onto her while shes on the floor, kicking him.
