one nn learns every atari game at once in realtime from scratch in one hour on a 4090. 56 seconds of gpu time per game. no pause or reset or memory peeking just 60fps color images. i was an rl skeptic two weeks ago. now i don't know. just trained this today.

"Nanda drastically underestimates, Nanda drastically underestimates the progress of recent circuit sparsity work, Jacobian SAEs, singular learning theory, and SPD/APD-style sparsification. Leo Gao. Yeah I read that too.”

"Of course you think SAEs are feature detectors, you're a first year interpretability researcher, just posted to a safety community, LessWrong probably. You'll talk about circuits until you read Neel Nanda

@actualhog wait it's like the Gödelian counterexamples literally are just proofs by contradiction so in a sense they are "nonconstructive" proofs that begin by assuming something impossible, but instead of a logical hypothesis the assumption is a higher order function parameter

I fell asleep on the couch and my back is sweaty but can you actually write down the halting problem counter example program thing? Is it finite?

@DanAdvantage But the reverse breakdown voltage thing isn't actually what the theory teaches you...

Jason,
Jason,@jasonc_nc·
Other countries first design safer streets for ~everyone~ and then build the trucks to work within them. We decided that was entirely too hard. Simply can’t figure it out. We’re too special.
Jason,@jasonc_nc

From NACTO & the USDOT Volpe Center re: research supporting the downsizing of fire trucks in urban areas. 1/ Smaller, more maneuverable emergency response trucks often have similar, or **better**, capabilities than the most common trucks on U.S. streets.

In America we design fire safety based on the preferences of fire department unions and a private organizations like the NFPA and ICC. Special interest has captured the very design of our cities and it’s often not the ones people default to blaming.
Alex McColl@AlexRMcColl

@jasonc_nc In British Columbia, the paper explaining how single-egress is safe was authored by a P.Eng with a graduate degree in civil fire engineering from a prominent European university. The counter argument was written by a former high school gym teacher who runs the fire union. 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️
