Watching @HashiCorp Nomad manage 10k servers is... pretty boring actually? The 3 Nomad servers were t2.mediums as were 7 of the client nodes. The other 10k clients are the real Nomad client node code but packed 100 per container across 100 containers on the 7 real nodes.

Very cool to see Nomad + Firecracker becoming a common technology stack for serverless container platforms. @flydotio being another popular one with the same stack.
Koyeb@gokoyeb

When we set off to build the Koyeb #serverless platform, we chose to build it with #kubernetes. After hitting certain limits, we switched to a custom & purpose-built stack: ⚙️ @HashiCorp Nomad 🔥 Firecracker 🐻 @kong Kuma Here's the full story: koyeb.com/blog/the-koyeb…

One of my Nomad buds made a PR to add some examples to Open Telemetry. If you think it's worth adding ("They're good examples, Bront"), the PR needs upvotes to be accepted #issuecomment-875695091" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/open-telemetry…

@mitchellh @pnegahdar When creating a Cadence workflow (what we use for long running tasks), the input is immutable. So if we need to change the input protobui, we must consider running workflows with the older definition. Cadence supports this with versioning workflows: cadenceworkflow.io/docs/go-client…

@mitchellh @pnegahdar @pnegahdar We don’t have a schema registry to enforce safe migrations like you would use with an event driven system like Kafka. For service to service, we maintain backward compatible protobufs and aggressively deprecate old code across our services once we update the callers.

@rajeevdubey39 Hey Rajeev, I am not sure I follow what you are trying to do. The template stanza will render one file at a time. But you can have multiple of them in a job. There is also the artifact stanza for downloading things from S3, http, etc. it also support archives (zip, tar).

@adadgar Thanks Alex, can we also render/pull directories having all property files using template stanza from Consul?

Is there anything similar as kubernetes configmap in Nomad to avoid dependency of creating host volumes for directory having property files for application #hashicorpnomad

@SatishMuthali If you want Nomad agents to talk to consul using TLS you set the TLS settings in the consul config section of the nomad agent: #cert_file" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">nomadproject.io/docs/configura…. If you want to have auto TLS between services, that’s when you use connect.

@adadgar - how do I configure Nomad with Consul using TLS? Do I have to use consul connect?

@SatishMuthali That’s awesome! Would be cool to hear what you can share about it. But definitely reach out if you run into anything the Nomad team can help with

A lot of people feel paralyzed right now, and rightly so. If you -- like me -- are a white American horrified by police brutality and systematic racism, it's very tempting to add your voice... 1/

Ok here's a new one: did you know that cows can cause network outages? Don't laugh, it happened to us. The beginning of the story: recently, we noticed frequent short outages ("flaps") on a multi-terabit fiber path through Oregon. 1/

Consul leads the pack in production usage in a @CloudNativeFdn survey on service mesh. This number would be even higher considering the service discovery and K/V use cases as well. Excited for the roadmap this year! 🚀

Excited to share this case study on @Roblox choosing Nomad: 4 SREs manage 11,000 nodes across 22 clusters on bare metal + AWS, Windows + Linux. 500 nodes per Nomad cluster, no sweat. A first-time sysadmin upgraded a cluster online. Yep, that's Nomad. 😎 buff.ly/38EJrSh
