Ghana demands compensation for slavery in landmark UN vote bbc.in/4rRUjny

Ghana can sod off.

As Ghana calls for reparations and the left wing media rush to reinforce the white guilt some may feel, it is notable that none use this photo of a British Sailor removing the chains from a freed slave. Great Britain ended the slave trade and paid in blood and coin. No charge.

“in landmark UN vote” Interesting. Ghana was a slave-trading state that captured people to be sold for centuries before Europeans even showed up. Was it discussed at the UN? Although trading of slaves in the region was banned by the British themselves in 1800, slavery was not abolished until becoming a British colony and it persisted long after, wherever European control was weak or absent. Interesting indeed, despite the “landmark UN vote”, history gives us a more complex picture. In Africa and all other continents, slavery existed long before any kind of coloniser, and the abolition Europeans championed at some point of their civilisational evolution was complex, slow, and uneven because it had been engrained in local systems for millennia. History is rarely neat. but it’s worth knowing, especially when we make headlines about it. So, if this UN vote is meant as a moral reckoning, here’s the takeaway: slavery is not an exclusively European story, but Europeans are the ones who forced its ceasing. Ghana, if you need money, Europe is not the right cow to milk.
