@KnicksMuse Jalen Brunson was #5 in the MVP voting last year. He has taken teams to the conference finals and then a new team to back to back years with a playoff series win (which they don’t have in a decade). He will likely be 1st team all NBA this year. He’s the best player in the series

@HolderStephen @JakeArthurNFL Think we are all more confused by trading Anthony for a bag of 🫘 when your qb is coming off a torn Achilles and has never stayed healthy in any season in his career. Trading a competent veteran backup for nothing and getting no cap relief makes 0 sense given the Colts other QBs

NEW: If you’re confused about the Colts’ willingness to pay QB Daniel Jones up to $100m over the next two years despite an Achilles tear, read this. I dove into all the related questions and looked at history to answer this question: Was this prudent? espn.com/nfl/story/_/id…

@NickCzyk @ColtsFilmRoom How is a coach who hasn’t had a division title or playoff appearance in the worst division in football not a lame duck? If he loses he’s out. He has to be, he has a losing record and is terrible against the best teams in the divisions

@ColtsFilmRoom @ZachHicks2 @DwallsterDrake What on earth is there to like about the approach about missing on your #1 outside free agent 🎯 and having your backup to that, being nothing. Now they can only improve at edge via trade or the little assets they do have. They have open holes all over, coming from an 8-9 team

@ZachHicks2 @DwallsterDrake On paper they’re definitely worse. But that does not mean they’ll be worse in September. I like their approach right now especially if they can make a move for a rusher— then I will love it

@mchappell51 And a backup QB after you trade your 4th overall pick for a 6th-rounder. Unless we honestly think Riley Leonard is the solution at backup for a QB with a torn Achilles who has only finished one full season in his career

@NickCzyk @ColtsFilmRoom So you are using the answer of our lame-duck coach hating him as the reason to do someting incredible dumb from a football perspective? Just to be clear.

@adamjam99 @ColtsFilmRoom The coach and QB not being on the same page is kind of a major reason for not keeping said QB. Convenient for you to aak to leave that out.

Adamjam99@adamjam99

@ColtsFilmRoom can we go through this logic again: 1. Colts QB has a torn Achilles and may not be ready well into the season 2. The backup is a 6th rounder with little to no experience 3. You have a competent backup that knows the scheme and is a .500qb in that scheme 4. Trading him has no cap benefit 5. Your starter even if healthy is very injury prone 6. Best you can get is a 6th rounder We are trading him why? Choose an answer that doesn’t include your lame duck coach hating him

The Fields trade is a good predictor of ARs projected trade value. While there’s certainly more upside, you have to imagine the orbital bone fracture will play a big role in what the Colts will be able to get. I think a conditional Day 3 pick is probably what you’re eyeing

@DrewSav The final act is a slog, in addition to the opening sequence. Both are kind of aimless and take so long. The entire middle part of the movie is brilliant.

@TheJayRobins It’s hard to sell guys coming off three sack years as having impact for a Colts team that hasn’t had a 10 sack rusher since Justin Houston a half decade ago

There are 10 sack (or close to it) players available. There are players with elite pressure rates available. There are even players who can be consistent pass rushers and also strong edge setters in the run game. I’d call that impact.
J@Jgrner44

@TheJayRobins @StampedeBlue Non that will make an impact

@NickCzyk @HolderStephen That is awful, find me one other coach that would still have a job after 0 playoff appearances, 0 division titles, a losing record and a horrible record against your two top division opponents. Find me one other example if you can

Update on Colts QB Anthony Richardson, who is available via trade. No deal is imminent, per multiple sources. There are interested teams, but the dust is still settling from free agency. One particular team to monitor: the Green Bay Packers.

@NickCzyk @HolderStephen Shane absolutely will be fired unless they win since he wasted the #4 pick overall, has a losing record, hasn’t won a single division title in the worst division in football, presided over 2 late season collapses in a row; has a brutal record in the division and has won nothing

@adamjam99 @HolderStephen But Leonard had a lot of college experience. So he falls into a different category than Richardson. I promise you, if Steichen is fired, he wont be unemployed long.

@JustinRTBColts Well that and edge pass rusher. He’s whiffed constantly on the two most important positions in the NFL, most important on both sides of the ball. You can make a good argument he’s the single worst evaluator and acquirer of talent at those positions in NFL history

The Colts’ issue under Chris Ballard up to this point—regardless of what you’ve been told or believe—has LARGELY (but not only) been a QB issue: an inability to solve that position. Most other things are noise, in my opinion, at least as it relates to wins and losses.

@WEM1978 @HolderStephen Coach hates him also. Imagine @HolderStephen will describe it more nicely but let’s be honest. Shane hates the guy and wants him out. This isn’t a football decision. Your letting your lame duck decide this

Steichen is a top tier offensive coach. But in retrospect, that’s a different issue. He obviously helped accelerate Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts, but they were VERY experienced colleges QBs. Much different than developing a raw prospect like Richardson or even Malik Willis.

@JustinRTBColts After not signing him we went on to have one of the worst secondaries in the league that year, completely costing us our season. Following the season, we spent huge money on Ward and traded for Sauce.

@JustinRTBColts The position is close to meaningless in Lou’s scheme and his speciality was as a run stuffer, which is not worth 7mil so I get it

I don’t think Colts fans are upset enough about losing Nick Cross. Unless there is something we don’t know about him behind the scenes, this is EASILY my least favorite development of the offseason so far.

Can you imagine if somehow the #Colts signed Arnold Ebiketie and somehow traded for Jonathan Greenard? That's a great upgrade.

@TheDestinAdams Nor should they, many of thier guys are mediocre at best. Almost no Colts go on to be stars elsewhere. Their record of producing or acquiring elite talent since Ballard has been the gm is absysmal. Even when he does, its never at the most important positionsin modern football

Why would Colts fans relax when they haven't won the worst division in football in over a decade? Why would anyone relax when you don't have a single playoff home game or win in a decade? Why would anyone relax when you don't address the 2nd most important position in the NFL for a decade? Why would they relax when thier GM has a losing record, no division titles and only a single playoff win (v a divisional opponent) and a coach with a losing record who has gotten crushed in thier awful divsion?

How many offseasons do Colts fans need to watch before realizing this is just the beginning? Yes, the roster has holes (not saying they’ll all get filled), but it’s way too early to project starters and panic. Players get cut all the way through camp and preseason. Relax.
