growing up on the internet, there was a propaganda ran by Tiger fanboys against lions. an old study did a bite-force test on a young male lion & averaged around 650 PSI - this test didn’t exactly measure extra force applied from pulling too a real bite force test should be done in a tug-of-war type scenario where the animal has to bite harder to hold on to whatever material it’s biting so this wrong outdated test figure was published all over the internet - limiting the king of beasts to a measly bite force of 650 PSI - lower than that of a Kangal & within range of a Cane Corso how can a dog with a much smaller skull than a lion have a higher bite force PSI? now that i have some audience, i want to publicly dispute the fact & let whoever cares know that Lions actually bite much harder (1000+ PSI) I’m only now seeing google has adjusted the figure from just 650 PSI - to a range of 650-1000 PSI - which is still wrong because testing a young adult male lion to represent the full species for a bite force test is just wrong any adult male lion in his prime (usually 4-5 years old) easily bites with 1000+ PSI. growing up reading comments with this wrong narrative on YouTube used to piss me off. this post is a tiny relief/AKA something I’ve always wanted to do/clarify. hopefully this contributes to more positive data reps for lions all over the world.
