I was scrolling YouTube, looking for something to watch, then a random video appeared on my feed. As I dove deeper, I found one of the most straightforward philosophies that got horrifically modified and lost its core values.
STOICISM is built on 3 pillars: Logic, Physics, and Ethics. Even though Ethics is the most visible part, the original system had the ability to question and answer Physics and Logic too. Those two were the base Ethics stood on.
But when Stoicism migrated to Rome, they abandoned Physics and Logic entirely. Only Ethics survived the translation. And with that shift, the original written work started disappearing. Chrysippus alone wrote 700+ works — almost all of it destroyed. That was the foundation.
Without those texts, modern Stoicism feels incomplete. It doesn't really let you question reality — it just tells you to accept what's outside your control and move on. Which sounds wise, but without the Physics and Logic grounding it, the core becomes hollow.
Stoicism did influence modern philosophy, But it got absorbed in pieces, never as a complete system. That's the real loss. It had the potential to become the base of modern philosophy, but without its foundation, it could only leave fragments behind.
Genuinely spent 2-3 hours going down this rabbit hole. Philosophy hits different.
