@roastedrelic me saying why the byzantines are effected by orientalist thought which can tie back to the schism isn’t some misinformation i magically conjured up
English

@adoringlune Cool, I am a history student though. Don't go and try to spread misinformation again if it's possible then.
English

i <3 art deco / art noveau but u cant deny how orientalist it was lollll. those head dresses were literally popularized after king tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered

mf never heard of art deco or art nouveau
English

@roastedrelic cool. i’m clearly not an academic scholar so who gives a fuck on what i think
English

@adoringlune If you try to say “the great schism, due to how it alienated and antagonised the other, is one of the reasons for orientalism” people will laugh at your face.
English

@diorama0_ two of the pics were art nouveau which is pre 20s, pre tutankhamen tomb discovery which was my point and to show how there’s a historical precedent for dangled headbands etc.
English

@adoringlune yes the specific headdresses in the first post you posted were popularized after?? showing other headdresses that look totally different doesn’t refute that
English

@diorama0_ i was showing how headpieces from the 20s and art nouveau era have similarity’s to much older historical ones. a response to “those head dresses were literally popularized after king tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered”
English

@adoringlune you haven’t explained how that doesn’t count as orientalism and also most of the pictures you showed in your og post are from the 20s? and the ones you’re posting now look nothing like what shes wearing? we’re talking about sabrina not art nouveau in general
English

@roastedrelic the schism played a part in western views of the east and euro orientalism. history is dominos, things don’t just sprout out the ground one day.
English

@adoringlune “The precursor of orientalism” no tf it isn’t lmaooooo, let’s not throw big words and our shallow knowledge of history together to make dumb points again shall we?
English

@kataraluvr i literally never said there’s no similarity’s to other cultures. she’s clearly referencing old hollywood which is why i brought up art deco and art nouveau.
English

@adoringlune those are on the side / back. the ones where theyre all over the front / forehead are most similar to the arab & north african pieces. does the racism blind you so much that you cant even acknowledge it? shame...
English

@kataraluvr the dangling jewels/pearls, cameos on the headband over the forehead. you see no inspiration being taken whatsoever

English

@adoringlune and none of them look as similar to what sabrina is wearing as the arab / north african ones, so now what miss racist?
English

@roastedrelic the great schism led to the creation of the eastern empire which was the byzantines. that left a longstanding impression of superiority by the west against the east. the precursor of orientalism if you will.
English

@adoringlune That isn’t orientalism??? Are you sure you know what your are talking about 😭
English

@kataraluvr 2 of those are art nouveau and not from the 20s either, hence why i used both as an example
English

@adoringlune alright, lets use the ones you posted instead then. point still stands, argument remains unchanged, facts do not become any less evident. hope this helps!

English

@roastedrelic yes ik about the western catholic rome viewing itself as superior to eastern orthodox rome lol
English

@adoringlune @diorama0_ Wait till you hear the perception of byzantines are also heavily affected by orientalist line of thought lmao
English

@adoringlune @susoxo La cultura amazigh es mucho más antigua que todas las que tú mencionas, desde la era de Constantinopla
Español

@joanoflispector everything and everyone inspires everyone and everything. people have been invading, pillaging, researching and trading with each other since the beginning of time.
English

@adoringlune @diorama0_ do you think colonialism began in the 20s? and byzantine pendelia crowns weren't borrowed from egypt or russians had no central asia/ middle eastern influences?
English

@adoringlune yeah... and fashion being stolen from minorities is deff not something that happens
