Super fun day!! 🔉i started the sound design 🔥i made the best fire vfx i could 🧐 i added points of interest so the character looks at them... Also, there’s something hidden in the video for you 🖤 (get used to it… the game will have these kind of things) #gamedev #IndieGameDev #unity3d #RPG #Zelda

2:00am here BUT i just added roll, some combat moves, a combo, vfx and sounds for slashes, and a nice mechanic with the torch where you can rise it up to have more light around. Not perfect at all, but i need to sleep now and time for polishing will come! #gamedev #IndieGameDev #unity3d #RPG #Zelda

@KiroTeamGames I started with Zelda: A Link to the Past in mind, but speaking about modern inspirations for the ambience part i'd say Tunic, Death's Door and Outer Wilds. Thank you for the nice feedback my friend!

agree, 100%. My 5/7 job is being a co-founder of two startups because i don't want to be an employee :b That said, gaming industry is a super high competitive industry, a lot of people saturating the market launching hundred products every month. You really need to shine to have a chance in "getting rich", imho. Most of the people is chasing whishlists, losing focus on the final piece of art. I do it for my pleasure, for my dream, i want to publish a game i love on console before i die.

Here's an example of how much money a game dev actually pockets after earning $100,000 of Gross Revenue on Steam: - ~18% (returns, chargebacks, taxes) = $82,000 - 30% (Steam's platform cut) = $57,400 - 0% (if you self-publish) - 15.3% (U.S. Self Employment Tax) = $48,617 - $4,377 (Federal income tax) = $44,270 - ~$0-$3,800 (State income tax) = ~$40,400 So you could pocket about $40,000, but don't be discouraged. $100k gross sounds like a lot but it's only 5,000 copies sold at $20. This is attainable, but it's also why it's important to keep your development timeline short. x.com/jogamedev/stat… Disclaimer: This is a rough simplified example for a US solo dev self-publishing as a sole proprietor with minimal other expenses. Actual results vary a lot by your location, business structure, deductions, filing status, etc. This is not tax or financial advice — talk to a CPA.

i think i should start working on combat. Milestone bucketlist: - 1 weapon (short sword 🗡️) - 3 combat animations + 1 defensive - slash FX - damage on dummy target - animation on dummy target - damage FX - roll - parry

Sorry, maybe I didn’t explain it clearly. What I meant is: if a project that takes 3–4 years only makes 100k in its first year, I’d consider that a failure. If a 4–5 year project were to make 500k, and that’s a HUGE IF, like you said, pulling in 50k as passive income for a few years isn’t bad at all. On the other side, i don't believe in revenue stream from instant games made in 4 months with bought assets and recycled ideas. That said, if someone is devving indie games for the money, is probably starting off on the wrong foot.

@adredev @jogamedev It’s just game exposure lifecycles, is overly obv when you look at any exposed sales data that the first week makes all the income (unless a sleeper viral success.) I think many don’t market, then see that weak peak, and continue to not market.

Depends on the game imh. If its an instant game, made in 3-4 months, is a bug success. If it was a 3-4 years project, is a big fail. But in that case, you should've done something wrong, eg. failed in asking early feedbacks and failed in looking at audience sentiment on demo and vertical slice.

@adredev @jogamedev Passive income often relies on repetitive processes. Automating tracking and reporting with an n8n workflow could save you hours monthly, boosting ROI. Curious about how? Check my profile.
