Sporting Outliers - everyone has a "story" to tell. How Lionel Messi had the qualities of a great player at 4 years of age. How Andre Agassi could hit passing shots at 5. How the Williams sisters could beat adults by the time they were 10. Everyone has an "outlier" story - which is great to share over a drink or two with other sport's enthusiasts, #coaches etc. The reality is - #sportingoutlier stories warp the reality of what sport is really all about and even worse, sporting parents / carers and coaches often use the sporting outlier stories to justify pushing kids into advanced training programs at a young age. According to several online sources there's about 250 million soccer players. There's ONE Messi. #SportingParents - you've got more chance of winning the Lottery than producing your own version of Messi or Agassi or Serena Williams...... Using sporting outlier stories to justify pushing kids too hard too early by saying "Well, Messi was great at 4 so that proves that all players should be training hard at 4" is insane. It's like saying "Mozart was writing symphonies at 6 therefore every kindergarten kid who plays the recorder needs to be writing symphonies at 6". As I've said here on many many occasions, create the environment where kids fall in love with the sport, build strong, positive relationships with the child and their families and the ones with talent, passion, drive, enthusiasm, resilience and opportunity will shine through.

My brother is missing in Lisbon. He was last seen leaving O Gillins pub Sunday evening. We are desperate for information about his movements. It is very out of character for him to be offline for so long. Please RT
