@rgupta729 @MaxJordan_N Congrats on a great paper! Wish more evidence showed +convenience = +adherence. Even if not, convenience is worth something. Q is how much? +2x cost/mo? +100x cost/mo? Definitely indiv decision, but striking that $ diffs can be so big

Lucky to have the opportunity to write this piece with formal @JHospMedicine Editorial Fellow @adsumarsono. Enjoyed unpacking this study and thinking of ways we can improve discharges to SNFs
Journal of Hospital Medicine@JHospMedicine

Is this patient a good candidate for a skilled nursing facility (SNF)? @adsumarsono and @wraycharles argue for a multidisciplinary committee to weigh the implications of the decision including: Ethical👍🏼👎🏼 Clinical 🏥 Financial 💵 bit.ly/3nIobp5

@JHospMedicine Also, considering that HM cares for a broad spectrum of diseases, collabs across IM subspecialties will advance the field faster. Just like HM is the hub of inpatient care, HM can be the hub of inpatient research. #JHMChat

@JHospMedicine Multi-faceted approach likely needed 1⃣ Develop curriculum to cultivate research skills for the interested 2⃣ If pubs matter, then divisions should provide stats support 3⃣ Collabs across specialties & institutions 4⃣ Promotion criteria should be congruent with FTE allocation

@WrayCharles @jessdreicer @JHospMedicine @MattSakumoto Agree with science as a team sport. I've found collaborations incredibly valuable from both the perspective of improving the idea and methodology but also for holding one another accountable. Harder to let a deadline "slip" when you are a part of a team #JHMChat

Common feeling, right? The problem is a statistician or epidemiologist can't do the study without you - the clinician, who has contextual insights, etc. You bring the question, you bring the expertise. Don't downplay yourself in doing research #JHMChat

@JHospMedicine A1) I'm TERRIBLE at statistics and only moderately less terrible at study design. W/o a fellowship or MPH, feels like I just kind of missed the boat on those things? #JHMchat

@STangGirdwood @JHospMedicine After a rejection, the advice I've received is that I'm no longer trying to convince these reviewers to accept my paper, so just to move onto the next journal asap. One senior researcher said that if he believes the paper is still good that he resubmits within 72h wo changes

@JHospMedicine Pushing the paper to the next journal after a rejection. I struggle with how much to respond to the reviewers in case they’re selected as reviewers again. Also hard to find the balance of doing the research, writing grants to fund the research & publishing the research. #JHMChat

@JHospMedicine A1) almost all writing and scholarly work is unfunded - need to decide between that and family time and self care. Setting self-imposed deadlines when competing priorities. #JHMChat

@DRsonosRD @JHospMedicine Definitely know how this feels! You might have some luck with cross-departmental/cross-institutional collabs! Anecdotally, I've seen success when looking in non-traditional places :) #JHMChat

@JHospMedicine 3⃣ Study Design. Didn’t know anything about confounding, causal inference, statistics. Super hard to make a meaningful study without these fundamentals. Not impossible but strug is real. Has been super helpful to begin dedicated coursework at the @HarvardChanSPH #JHMChat
