Today, I had the honour of being invited to participate in the mega padyatra under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan at Football Stadium, TRC Srinagar. The event was graced by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri @manojsinha_ as the Chief Guest. It was inspiring to witness the collective commitment of people from all walks of life towards building a drug-free society. Such initiatives are vital in spreading awareness and encouraging our youth to choose a healthy and positive path. Together, we must continue to strengthen this movement for a brighter and safer future for Jammu & Kashmir.

Today, I inaugurated the project titled “Upgradation of Meemander–Khudpora Road up to Aharbal–Sedow, Shopian (Phase I)” at an estimated cost of ₹1.5 crore. This vital road will play a key role in decongesting Shopian town by providing an alternate route, ensuring smoother traffic flow, and improving connectivity for the local population. The second phase of this project is already in the pipeline. I remain committed to strengthening infrastructure and addressing the needs of the people.

Met with Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, J&K, Shri @manojsinha_ Sahab at Lok Bhavan, Jammu, and discussed the severe damage caused by the recent hailstorm that affected several areas of District Shopian on 06/04/2026. Emphasized the urgent need for fast-track implementation of crop insurance to ensure timely relief to the affected farmers. Also urged for a one-time relaxation in waiving off KCC loans to ease the financial burden on our farming community during this difficult time. Today, I met the Hon’ble Chief Minister at Jammu to discuss the extensive damage caused by the recent hailstorm on 06-04-2026, which has severely affected horticulture, especially apple crops, in many areas of Shopian. I raised the urgent issue of bringing apple crops under a comprehensive crop insurance scheme to safeguard our farmers from such recurring losses. I also emphasized the need for providing subsidy on anti-hail nets to protect orchards and ensure long-term resilience for our horticulture sector. Additionally, I urged for a one-time relaxation to waive off KCC loans for distress farmers who have suffered heavy losses due to this calamity. Our farmers deserve timely support and concrete measures to secure their livelihoods. @OmarAbdullah @javidahmaddarjk

I have raised this issue many times in the Assembly regarding the lack of support for apple growers in Kashmir Valley. Despite heavy dependence on horticulture, apple crops are still not covered under crop insurance. Also pointed out that Himachal Pradesh provides subsidies on anti-hail nets, while Jammu and Kashmir does not—despite frequent hailstorm damage. Urged the government to introduce crop insurance and anti-hail net subsidies to protect our farmers. @OmarAbdullah

Under my CDF fund, street lights have been successfully installed from Fruit Mandi Aglar to Four Way, further extending towards Clock Tower, and from Hospital Road up to Bongam Chowk. This was Phase I of the project. This initiative aims to improve visibility, enhance public safety, and facilitate smoother movement for residents, especially during evening hours. I remain committed to ensuring better infrastructure and basic amenities across the area.

Today, during the Assembly session, I raised my starred question regarding the Hospital Development Fund (HDF) and the engagement of medical and supporting staff in District Hospitals. Before 2015, these engagements were being made through HDF on a contractual basis, which played a crucial role in addressing staff shortages and ensuring better healthcare services for the public. However, in 2015, the Government imposed a ban on such engagements, citing concerns over staffing patterns in hospitals. In the House, I strongly highlighted that this decision has adversely affected the functioning of our healthcare institutions, especially at the district level, where there is an acute shortage of manpower. I urged the Government to reconsider and lift the ban, so that Medical Superintendents are empowered to make need-based engagements through HDF, ensuring smooth functioning of hospitals and improved patient care. Access to quality healthcare remains our priority, and I will continue to raise such issues for the welfare of the people. Today marks an important step towards the transformation of Shopian Town. This project has materialized due to my continuous personal efforts and persistent follow-up, and it will go a long way in improving civic amenities and the overall outlook of our town.
