Following the successful training of all study staff, we are pleased to announce the commencement of participant enrollment for the ENABLE 1.5 Project, Bauchi (Bauchi ENABLE) in partnership with @CEPIvaccines. This study will deepen our understanding of #LassaFever by assessing disease incidence, clinical presentation, and malaria co-infections across affected communities in the Northern region of the country where there have been increase cases of Lassa disease. Bauchi ENABLE also marks a key step in strengthening Nigeria’s capacity for high-quality research and future vaccine trials. Yesterday marked another major milestone in the ENABLE Programme! The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention ENABLE Coordination Office has officially launched the ENABLE 1.5 Social Behavioral Study (SBS), a qualitative study designed to explore community attitudes, perceptions, and acceptance of a Lassa Fever vaccine, as well as willingness to participate in vaccine and therapeutics clinical trials. This critical study, nested within the ENABLE Project, is being implemented in four study sites FMC Owo, AEFUTHA, ISTH and ATBUTH in collaboration with CEPIVaccines and IVIheadquarters. Together, we are strengthening community engagement and advancing vaccine confidence to support effective public health interventions.

In collaboration with CEPIvaccines, the ENABLE study Coordination team at the NCDC have marked another Milestone in the The ENABLE 1.5 Project. Following serum samples accountability checks by the Compliance Partner across the three ENABLE study sites, over 7,800 samples including the final batch from AEFUTHA have now been successfully shipped to NRL Gaduwa for serological analysis. This next phase of the study will bring us closer to generating the scientific evidence needed to strengthen vaccine development and response strategies against Lassa fever. HISTORIC MILESTONE FOR AE-FUNAI 🎓🩺 Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State has successfully inducted its pioneer medical graduates, marking the completion of the university’s first set of trained medical doctors.

🏥 Strengthening State-Level Response to Lassa Fever and Protecting Healthcare Workers As Nigeria continues to respond to Lassa fever, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has intensified efforts to strengthen the national response and support states in addressing key gaps in outbreak management, while also protecting healthcare workers on the frontline. Yesterday, NCDC convened State Epidemiologists and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) focal persons to review the current Lassa fever situation, identify challenges in the ongoing response, and strengthen measures to prevent infections among healthcare workers. Chaired by the Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, the meeting focused on practical steps to strengthen IPC systems in health facilities, improve coordination with state teams, and ensure healthcare workers have the tools, training, and support needed to stay safe while caring for patients. Through this engagement, NCDC is working with states to: ▫️ Strengthen IPC practices in health facilities ▫️ Deploy IPC toolkits, scorecards, and operational guidance ▫️ Support rapid training and capacity building for healthcare workers ▫️ Improve early detection, reporting, and response coordination ▫️ Address state-level operational gaps in the ongoing outbreak response Protecting healthcare workers and strengthening state-level outbreak response systems are critical to controlling Lassa fever and reducing its impact.
