...first place. something can have an in-universe explanation but still be narratively unsatisfying, and vice versa.

a weirdly common response i see to being critical of narrative decisions in any kind of fiction is “erm if you actually READ, this was already set up in the story!!" without considering that you can be critical of the author's decision to set it up that way in the... (1/2)
