Hello, here are my rants on: • computer science teaching and research (my job), • why using generative AI is bad (still my job), • language learning (my hobby), • the fact that one must wear a f*cking FFP2-3 mask during airborne disease pandemics (my punishment, I guess).

Examples of incontrovertible evidence: hallucinated references, meta-comments from the LLM ("here is a 200 word summary; would you like me to make any changes?"; "the data in this table is illustrative, fill it in with the real numbers from your experiments") end/

The penalty is a 1-year ban from arXiv followed by the requirement that subsequent arXiv submissions must first be accepted at a reputable peer-reviewed venue. 4/

We have recently clarified our penalties for this. If a submission contains incontrovertible evidence that the authors did not check the results of LLM generation, this means we can't trust anything in the paper. 3/

If generative AI tools generate inappropriate language, plagiarized content, biased content, errors, mistakes, incorrect references, or misleading content, and that output is included in scientific works, it is the responsibility of the author(s). 2/

“I don’t care. I don’t have to care about you or your health”. My co-worker told me this today when I asked her why she kept unplugging the hepa filter in our work space. This just days after complaining about using all of her PTO for sicknesses she’s had so far this year. But

This attitude "I don't care about you or your health" is actually the biggest upshot of the covid pandemic. We were given outright permission for it to be socially acceptable to not care about anyone or anything.

You’re about to see how a brain damaged populace attempts to prevent another pandemic. Expect denial, systemic incompetence, incoherent communication, poor risk assessment, low critical thinking & impaired judgement. We’re in for one hell of a ride, that’s for sure. Buckle up.

It's weird folks. I am now seeing a lot of people just out of the blue seem to know what N95s are for, and how to quarantine. So were they just acting ignorant before now?

This paper we’re writing might actually turn out to be my best paper yet. It has nice motivation, nice intuition, nice algebra, nice computational complexity, nice computability (maybe a bit of combinatorics too?). Writing and discussing it with my coauthors is so satisfying.

I mean they can’t even manage an outbreak like this - no wonder the way Covid has been handled is a disaster. It does open your eyes to how clueless people are.
