@flameosumeet They’re not letting the double-pivot receive the ball at all. Asking rice to magically have the ball appear at his feet beyond their first line is not the answer. If we can’t get the ball out of the back 4 it doesn’t matter if a mf can take it on the half-turn or not

In the positions he was recieving in there wasn’t much more he could’ve done do you not agree? If he had Doku/Semenyo esque situations in the final 3rd and he was fluffing his lines everytime I would genuinely be with you, I guess yh he could’ve shown more intent to get on the ball but he’s a touchline winger is he meant to go help buildup 1st phase

MLS wasn't poor defensively last season. Was fantastic in 1v1s wide. His defensive decline this season is something new.

I also think we badly miss the Zinchenko/Lewis-Skelly inverted full back role. They were poor defensively but the only ones who could make penetrative and progressive passes during build up. Not a fan of inverted FB but in Arteta's system they are a necessity.

@LickshotLippy Pretty obvious that he sees the guy close to him to his right and immediately backs out of the pass. Still think he should be able to make this pass under a bit of pressure though. Our system is designed to create exactly that opportunity with Saka as many times as possible.

@YankeeGunner @clivepafc There is no such thing as a single pivot. A “lone 6” will always be partnered by a fullback or 8 stepping into the center in buildup to some extent. Otherwise you can’t progress the ball without going long

I think @clivepafc has me figured out. I just don’t really like the double pivot. I prefer the 433 with a single pivot and I think with Declan Rice you’ve got a unicorn who can do everything you need to make that work.
But here we are on the doorstep of winning everything so 🤷♂️
