Well! #FSBI2024 didn't disappoint. Always taken aback by the incredible science but also how lovely the community is. A lot going on for me this year: running a SciCom workshop, posting every talk on Mastodon, presenting on eDNA, poster marking, the FSBI stand & pub quiz hosting!

The whole @fsbi_symposium was so well organised a run, thanks to the amazing @naiara_re and the @azti_brta team (@iraide_aa)! The bar has been set high for next year! I can't thank you enough 🙏

It feels like #FSBI2024 was a lifetime ago, now! But as we reflect on the conference, we'd like to extend further massive thanks to @naiara_re, the local organising committee, the scientific advisory comittee and YOU, the conference attendees, for creating the perfect meeting!

Earlier this month we recognised truly inspirational scientists. At #FSBI2024 the #BevertonMedal (Skúli Skúlason), #FSBIMedal (Erika Eliason), #LeCrenMedal (Peter Henderson) & #HuntingfordMedal (Michael Grant) were awarded. Nominations now open for 2025: bit.ly/3LEdwqt!

There have only been 4 Directors of SCENE; on the first day of office of the 4th- Chris Harrod - the previous two - Roger Tippett (1972-1995) and Colin Adams (1995 – 2024) were there to welcome him this fantastic research and teaching field station. @UofG_SBOHVM @chris_harrod

We'd like to congratulate Prof Skúli Skúlason who has been awarded this year's #BevertonMedal! 🏅 Working at the interface between ecology, ontogeny and genetics, his decades of work have address questions around the mechanisms operating at the origins of evolutionary divergence.

Had a great time yesterday joining the first FSBI PhD day! Varied & amazing #research presented. Such an impressive group and a real asset to @TheFSBI. A workshop on machine learning by @BenWilliamsSci was particularly enlightening/useful! Being at @zsllondonzoo was also a treat.

David Randall (Dave) - Vá com Deus Um homem excepcional, um cientista singular, um professor atento. Contribuiu como ninguém com a Fisiologia Comparada. Chefiou a expedição Alpha Helix à Amazônia em 1976. Minha vida profissional representa muito do que aprendi com Dave.

Dave Randall was indeed exceptionel and a wonderful person. The world is considerably less interesting now and he will be missed
