@aforarpit We may differ on where intention ends and inconsistency begins.
But I think we can agree on one thing: religion should first make us introspect and only then advise others.
Thank you for a civil discussion. 🙏
Met a respected elder from my Jain samaj today.
For almost 30 minutes he explained why, as a Jain, I should have nothing to do with alcohol.
I listened patiently.
When he finished, I smiled and asked him a few simple questions.
What car do you drive - Leather seats?
Can I see your wallet?
Your shoes?
Your belt?
What sofa do you have at home?
He looked at me, smiled… and the lecture ended.
I’m not asking anyone to drink.
I’m only saying that if we’re going to use religion as the standard, let’s apply it honestly to ourselves before we apply it to someone else.
Faith deserves consistency, not convenience.
@rakeshpsheth Ok. I feel that it is very easy to label someone as inconsistent. For example, if I were to advice you the same, you'll retort stating that because I eat root vegetables and use handwash to kill germs, I am not an ideal Jain (which I am not) and therefore, won't accept my advice
@aforarpit Intent may differ. The outcome often doesn’t.
My point wasn’t that leather equals alcohol. It was that selective application of religious principles weakens the argument.
Consistency is the standard I’m advocating.
@rakeshpsheth On that front, I can say that procuring alcohol is a more 'direct' decision. You know what you are buying and it's utility. The same may, or may not, be entirely true when it comes to buying the other stuff you mentioned. One may not be able to control leather components in a car
Darjeeling hill train and taxi collide; driver seen arguing with the loco pilot, insisting the train was on the "wrong side." 😄
Sometimes reality writes better comedy than fiction.
The iconic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway "Toy Train" was proceeding along its fixed, century-old track when it brushed against a Mahindra Sumo that had been parked dangerously close to the railway line.
The irony? The driver reportedly argued with the loco pilot, claiming the train was on the "wrong side"!
Unlike a road vehicle, a train cannot swerve, change lanes, or steer around obstacles. It runs on a permanent track that has existed for over a century.
Authorities later determined that the taxi had been illegally and negligently parked. The vehicle was seized, and a case was registered against the driver.
A humorous reminder that while opinions may differ, railway tracks don't.

Just over 11 years ago I commentated on my first game for Benfica TV. Can’t say I gave it that much thought but it is strange to think that Ruben Amorim now coaches Milan and Jorge Jesus has just been named Portugal head coach
While one part of the world uses drones to wage war, another uses them to protect crops, conserve resources, and support farmers.
This is fungicide spraying by drone in our rubber estates at Harrisons Malayalam
In a major blow to Mumbai's dessert lovers, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the direct food license of the legendary K Rustom & Co at Churchgate.
The 80+ year-old establishment, globally famous for its iconic ice cream sandwiches at Brabourne Stadium, has been ordered to halt all operations immediately.
The sudden raid was executed under the strict zero tolerance directives of firebrand FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, targeting hygiene lapses and regulatory compliance across Mumbai's elite food joints. The sudden inspection exposed several regulatory and safety violations, including:
Severe hygiene failures: Sub-standard cleanliness in food handling and preparation zones.
Improper storage: Failure to adhere to proper refrigeration guidelines for dairy products, raising spoilage and bacteria risks.
Misbranding and missing dates: Food materials and products lacking transparent mandatory safety labels, manufacturing dates, or batch details.
No health check-ups: Staff handling the ice cream did not possess mandatory medical fitness certifications required by law.
Sigh
Think about how Cabo Verde played against Argentina.
Now think about how Allegri’s Milan played against Cagliari in a must-draw finale.
Embarrassing.
Cabo Verde fought to WIN against the champions. Milan with Leão, Pulisic, Nkunku played to survive against a relegation side.
It’s 34 degrees in London & Brits are burning; rail tracks melting, restaurants turning off fryers etc.
As my wife asked : how did these wimps manage to rule super hot India for so long in their heavy uniforms & elaborate tailcoats?
This is cooler than Indian summers
