Cheeky Cherki doing keepie uppies in the middle of the #CarabaoCup final. Says it all really. Pathetic from @Arsenal today. Negative, overly cautious. Playing not to bottle it instead of playing to win it. I would not be surprised if we end up trophyless again this year.

@africafeed Yeah it's a really tough one, been trying for a few months, on and off, which is making me even more determined to find out. Passed it one day when driving out that way.

@adamabyss @FIFAWorldCup Yep @adamabyss and I were there together in the magnificent Lusail Stadium. Absolute drama. It was a privilege to be in the stands as Messi lifted the trophy. The greatest World Cup final ever. P.S. Peter Drury is the best commentator. Long may he work behind the microphone.

Arsenal and Arteta are under huge pressure to win it. Probably more than any other club at any other time in the history of the Premier League. The people criticizing Arteta for overreliance on set pieces and playing "ugly football" are the same people who will slaughter him for bottling it if Arsenal don't win the title this year. Winning the Premier League is the only thing that matters. I don't care how we do it.

Arsenal will win the league in spite of Arteta, not because of him, he's pathetic. All those excellent players that Arsenal has and he has instructed him to play this utter rubbish.

Twice a year 6 million antelope move north/south and east/west across South Sudan to/from Gambella National Park in Ethiopia after the seasonal rains. "Bodingalo National Park. No place in Africa even comes close to the intact nature of the land, the ecosystems and the wildlife. South Sudan is like a quantum leap from anything else, not just on this continent, but worldwide. This is the home of one of the greatest migrations in the world, probably the biggest." youtu.be/E63ze-iG2WI?si… via @YouTube

"Why 94 is the new 54 for moguls". Great piece from the FT. Rupert Murdoch, Charles Koch, George Soros, Giorgio Armani (ok, recently died) are / were all active and influential into their 90s. The article also correctly points out that two of the leading financial beneficiaries of the AI boom so far have been Larry Ellison (81) and Les Wexner (88).

Tbilisi, Georgia, September 22, 2025. Reminded me of Budapest in the early 1990s. The same "post-transition" vibrancy but with (even) more wine, (even) more hills and a weird juxtaposition of gleaming glass towers alongside crumbling 19th-century architecture.

June 2025. Hanging out with a statue of Hungarian author, Gyula Krúdy, creator of Szindbád (Sindbad in English), one of the most distinctive figures in Hungarian literature. Based loosely on Sinbad the Sailor from The Arabian Nights, Krúdy transformed him from a literal adventurer into a wandering man of memory and longing. Szindbád is obsessed with recollections of past loves, youthful encounters, and meals. One famous 1971 film adaptation of his novellas features a 10-minute scene of him eating a four-course meal of broth, bone marrow on toast, roast pheasant with cabbage, and pancakes filled with jam. The famous lunch scene takes place in 1890s Budapest, at the twilight of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Szindbád is played by Zoltán Latinovits (1931–1976), one of Hungary’s most celebrated stage and screen actors. You can watch the scene here, and literally follow every bite of food Szindbád takes. Ok, not every bite. There are plenty of glorious close-ups of the marrow, broth, and sinews of the meat. From 1.01.55 to 1.010.30. m.ok.ru/video/78054468…

Bar'dayez Bistro pub quiz, Nairobi, Thursday August 21. Thanks to the geniuses of team Hocus Pocus for adopting me for the evening. I was the least knowledgeable person on the team. My primary contributions were buying a few rounds of drinks and pouring the Jameson from the bottle of whiskey that we won.

I love the way the audience gasps in awe regularly. Most of them are probably fanatical practitioners themselves. Yo-Yo masters (male and female). They clearly know which moves are extra impressive. As a layperson, I think the whole performance is amazing. Mad skills!
