Have talked a lot of shit about Joe Kent over the years (deserved) and can't speak to all of his motivations here but I gotta say its pretty refreshing to see that someone in the administration has a red line on something.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

I don’t know much about American constitutional law, so I don’t opine about it. If the procedures here are literally illegal by domestic US law, you guys should do something about it. But I remember a similar debate about Obama’s intervention in Libya, when the left pretty much kept quiet. From where I stand as a foreigner looking in, American politicians’ claims about the legality of foreign interventions seem to track very closely with whether the particular president in power comes from their party.
In this case, I’m not commenting on the legality question, but on the Iranian expats he references. To pretend that millions of Iranian expats would feel attacked by an American strike on Khamenei’s regime is just running defense of the regime. It isn’t about legality, it’s about his third-worldist ideology.

@RobertCherry22 @Nadav_Eyal That's a good point! It's probably true that there are benefits to being Muslim in Israel rather than in other regional states. But I'm not sure that negates the idea that Israel actively oppresses Muslim non-citizens and clearly discriminates against Arab citizens.

@afusfeld @Nadav_Eyal Arab citizens have more rights and higher educational and occupational attainment than Palestinians in neighboring countries. In Lebanon they ate all stateless as are one million in Jorden despite living there for three generations.
