Against Standardized Testing

Negativity has no place in a classroom.

Many times a student's willingness to learn is a reflection of our willingness to learn. ONGOING professional development is a must.

If instruction stops after the high stakes test, it gets hard for people to believe the argument that teaching is more than a test score.

Many students are set up to fail but yet somehow find success. This is why it's ridiculous for anyone to say public education is broken.

If you stop teaching after the state standardized test, then you completely validate the notion the test is all that matters.

Some standardized assessments so out of touch. Read an essay question that asked students to discuss the “extra stuff in their home and clutter.” Seriously?? I have kids that come to school with all their possessions in a backpack bc they’re moving to a new home that day.

My reaction when I hear an educator speak negatively about students.

Testing may teach children to be good at taking tests, but does not prepare them for productive lives outside of school

I think that many teachers have moved away from the idea of standardized testing to give students a fair shot. Which I believe is a good idea for all students.

Some people say "standardized tests fairly and comprehensively measure student performance" but what about the kids who aren't as skilled in school? Are they getting a fair shot?

Why do we put so much reliability on standardized testing? Out students have so much more potential then what these tests are testing.

Too many times we try and measure student engagement by quantity of work produced rather than quality of work produced.
