this is my mum’s new cat Darcy (as in Mr Darcy) he’s an enormous handsome former stray turned lap cat who gets a bit too eager to drink his milk and splashes it all over himself (see attached for evidence)

Hey! I’m hoping to get my shop open soon, I had planned to open back up with some new items in January but a bout of double pneumonia squashed that plan pretty thoroughly. Look out for a return to jewellery making and posting very soon though!

Incredible book. Moved me very deeply. I’ve seen it’s had mixed reviews and a truly surprising number of 1* ratings but I think it’s one of those things that either resonates or it misses completely. For me, it resonates. Highly recommend.

I’ve been reading more fiction to balance out the research reading and this is my current paperback on the go. It has a unique way of breaking up the chapters that is so immersive (and terrifying) I’m really enjoying it so far. About a quarter way through, hope to finish tonight.

I’ve searched for a private prescription medication for an hour only to come to the conclusion that I must have chucked it with the rest of the cardboard recycling while still packaged by mistake because it’s nowhere to be found. That’d be £200 (that I don’t have) to replace.

I’m missing my boy a lot these days, especially when I don’t feel well. He was a very attentive nurse cat, always straight to your side whenever anyone in the house was sick. I truly believe in the healing benefits of cats, so I wish I had him by my side now.

One upside of being hospitalised is that I realised I know more Greek than I thought I knew because I understood tachycardic based on an educated guess and felt very proud of myself for remembering ‘tachus - swift’ even under duress. Athenaze never really leaves you!

You would’ve thought the mandated rest time post-hospitalisation would be a prime opportunity to get stuck into my fiction TBR list for 2026 but honestly I’ve been so exhausted all I can do is gaze into space. It feels like my brain is on 0.5x speed at best, horrible horrible!

I don’t know if it’s medically true but I’m convinced antibiotics cause really weird dreams because some of the things I’ve experienced the past week are just too strange and vivid

The prognosis is a full recovery: I never experienced respiratory difficulties or such a severe infection before and hopefully won’t again. The exact cause is unclear, I tested negative for flu/COVID (the jabs work, at least!) but the general consensus is “one of those things”

Thankful to both my parents for making the journey to Darlington to visit me and bring me essentials, giving me their help and care even when I wasn’t present enough to appreciate it because of the respiratory distress.

So my January has gotten off to an unexpectedly awful start! I was hospitalised via ambulance last week with double pneumonia, a truly awful experience. After four days of assistive oxygen, three antibiotics, and a week of home rest I am finally feeling like a person again.
