Abdi, I never advocate for a dual-track approach. Relations between nations should be state to state; I believe that! I think the problem is that the state of Turkey, rather than engaging with a state, deals with individuals representing, not state’s interests, their own personal interests (power, money, influence, etc). Remember, Somalia is (a nation) in search of a state, and we must be careful when using “state”. Turkey empowers these individuals to access—through illegal agreements (since parliament never approved)—to the country’s strategic assets including ports, airports, oil and gas, blue economy, and so forth. In exchange, Turkey to assist these individuals to stay in power, even through the use of violence, if necessary. That, I said, will drag the country back into civil wars; back into further secessionist movements and disintegration.

Your assertions expose a major technical flaw. Put the PhD aside, how can Turkey possibly “go back” to a formal bilateral relationship without engaging with the HSM? In my view, the only feasible options are either through Villa Somalia or via the dual-track approach, with the third being no relationship at all. Which one are you advocating for?

Turkey’s current engagement with Somalia is no longer state to state; it’s state to individuals. At least FMS would benefit from the dual-track approach much better than this state to individuals relations. Turkey should go back to the state to state relations it practiced at the beginning of its engagement with Somalia. Also, HSM, with his “PhD”, is acting like he is a dictator.

I didn't catch that. Turkey is engaged with Somalia in a civitas ad civitatem. Are you against official diplomatic relations and favour a dual-track approach, or are you entirely opposed to Turkey's relationship? Calling someone a dictator is highly subjective, politically motivated, and loaded; therefore, I will disregard that in this discussion.

Abdi, the outcome matters, not the process. I agree with you UAE’s actions, overall, pose the real threat to Somalia’s future as a VIABLE state. But, in reality, Turkey is backing a dictatorship system that will eventually drag the country back to square one, ie, civil wars, which’s the reason, the main reason, why Somalia is disintegrated. Both ways will inevitably lead to fragmentation and secessionism—if that’s your concern.

@cunayee @agaraad @XSpaces Prof. @agaraad embodies intellectual maturity and sharp political acumen, appreciating the strategic depth of Turkey–Somalia relations. Sound analysis must rise abpve sentiment neither driven bu affinity nor hostility but anchored in facts, evidence and disciplined reasoning.

You must have missed my point. I discussed the mutually destructive path that could fragment the country: the UAE's secessionist axis (AoS) and Turkey's centralising approach (TC). I argued that the AoS alone can fragment the state, while the TC is invoked only when the AoS is active. Without the AoS, the TC cannot cause fragmentation. Your term that I "refrained" to shame Turkey’s “divisive” is misplaced. Why? Turkey is engaging through the proper and legitimate channels for state-to-state relations. Do you want Turkey to adopt a dual-track approach? Isn't that why/what we condemn for the UAE’s As? The real issue is @TheVillaSomalia's lack of capacity to provide basic services, represent the country, and deliver on its mandate in the name of the country.

True. His statements were unfiltered, bordering on slander, and laced with unsubstantiated accusations, such as assassinations that may yet come to haunt him. He appeared erratic, covering disparate ground without coherence. At times, he gave the impression of having left political life altogether, as though he were merely reading aloud from his own memoirs. That's why I call him to refrain from the 🎤

Fahad Yasin should refrain from public microphone engagements, as this medium tends to expose his intellectual and governance shallowness. This observation was originally conveyed to his close associates following his inaugural interview with Gaylan Media. Though the comment may not have reached him at the time, it is now reiterated publicly in the hope that he receives it. His recent interview with Geed Fadhi prompted this restatement. Abdirahman Abdishakur, while criticising Fahad, has offered a notable compliment: "Fahad Yasin is a diligent operative, working a full twenty-four-hour cycle in politics." My view is that Fahad's best route to realising Abdishakur's commendation would be to take a strategic cue: in Yasin's case, silence would constitute an asset. This appraisal recalls the Somali proverb, afdaboolan waa dahab—a closed mouth is gold.

I never communicated with Fahad directly but instead relayed messages through mutual acquaintances. Whether those messages reached him remains uncertain; what is clear, however, is that they produced no effect. The guy now speaks as though he is departing from political life and dictating his memoirs. I had hoped Abdirahman Abdishakur's assessment would prove accurate. It was for that reason I sought to warn him against self-exposure, and why I have now made that warning public.

@agaraad @EIshmael_ I agree with everything you said. However, when you stated “ this observation was originally conveyed to his close associates…. It is now reiterated publicly.” The inference here is that you previously advised him so why not be direct instead of shrouding words behind clouds?

In Norway, I saw almost everyone in the Independence Day parade. Amidst this festivity, I found solace in a Somali Saar song that depicts a young woman praying for her heroic husband, who is fighting to free Harar and Hawash from the sole expansionist African entity. The melody is below: In Harar and in Hawash, where the dead drink last, The battle has married the ground. The people lift dangerous steel against the Amhara, And a journey’s only door is the place where you already are. O my hero, public brave: Not you for the hyena/fox’s drag. Not you for the puff adder’s hinge. And nothing they bring me! No belt, no bone, no he was left behind. Your mother and I weep not.

Absolutely true, Faisal. As I said, the guys deserve kudos for boosting the “fadhi-ku-diri”. However, it seems they’re letting angry folks jump on a free platform, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as that could even help reveal some hidden issues. But their critique is that they’re not holding them accountable.

@agaraad What’s missing is issue-focused, grassroots reporting. Where are the field interviews with affected communities? The cross-checking of claims against budget lines, NGO reports, local leaders? Invoking Dhugasho and oral tradition doesn’t substitute for the basics: verify, challenge, report.  Accountability requires more than a microphone and a quote from a poem. It requires proof, context, and the willingness to challenge power—even when the guest is a friend or ally.
Abdi Garad, PhD@agaraad

The Somali media landscape has taken a sharp turn, elevating the traditional fadhi-ku-dirir: a colloquial form of armchair debate, into a mainstream podcasting format. The programme GeedFadhi (GF), fronted by @AbdikarimAKaar and @SherifAbdinur, is widely credited with this innovation. The hosts not only embrace this credit themselves but, to silence detractors, also invoked the authority of Qaryaan Dhodaan’s Dhugasho poem, framing their work as truth-seeking rooted in oral tradition. Yet, for all their posturing as tribunes of public accountability, their editorial performance betrays a consistent failure to scrutinise guests or hold them to account.
