This winter, TITLES teamed up with Rhizome (@rhizome) to commission several artists, including Maya Man (@mayaonthenet), Louis Osmosis, balfua, Alix Vernet and Aarati Akkapeddi, to train their own custom AI models. On March 23, join us for Model as a Medium, an event at Index Space in NYC where several participating artists will unveil their work, describe their approach, and explore this process and its implications for the creative process, authorship, and ownership in the AI age. The event is free with RSVP with link below; refreshments will be served. TITLES is a platform that enables artists and IP holders to retain attribution and earn royalties when their custom AI models are used by others. Rhizome is a 501c3 non-profit with the mandate to champion born-digital art and culture through commissions, exhibitions, scholarship, and digital preservation. Index is a center for peer-led, public programming and the generous exchange of knowledge and ideas. We have co-working and event spaces in Chinatown and Greenpoint, and nodes all over the world.

Studio 02, Pt. 1: Working primarily in sculpture, installation, performance and text, Louis Osmosis takes a speculative approach to form to interrogate systems of representation, duration, and continuity that enact contemporary culture. Osmosis’s sculptural objects operate as proxies that toggle between various affects and constructed scenes to engender what he calls a “dramaturgy of discrepancies” and a poetics of discontinuity. His studio in Chinatown NY is, in his words, “an endearing OSHA nightmare, and therefore, the perfect place to try and make something as equally petty and redundant as the world is.” *All political views of the doorman are the doorman’s alone and not the artist’s* Louis showed TITLES around.

Studio 01: Alex Headlam (@aleqth) is a multimodal artist, technologist, and creative developer whose work reflects on pop culture through technological architecture. His studio is a two room modular workstation equipped for both painting and digital practice — one half for digital art and music, the other half for painting. And sleeping. We asked him to show us around.

Introducing a new AI model by award-winning poet and multidisciplinary artist Ana María Caballero (@CaballeroAnaMa). This model is a living extension of a larger project—Being Borges—in which Caballero used Jorge Luis Borges and Margarita Guerrero’s The Book of Imaginary Beings to generate images based on the original Spanish text, its English translation, and her own poetic rewritings, unmasking the latent biases ingrained in large data sets.
