Does anyone recognize any of these frames? They're from an old Charli video (youtube.com/watch?v=s1xUxy…), alongside stuff that I know is from "The Passion of Joan of Arc" (1928) and "The Possessed" (1965), but I'm having trouble with these ones 🤔

@sydurbanek Agree. For me, there was a *tiny* bit of a dropoff, post the pandemic (when in-person live performance wasn’t possible and immersive vids seemed especially important). But still so many awe-inspiring music videos now!

I just bristle at the claim that videos are Bad Now, artistically, because I don't know anyone who watches more than me and it's simply not the case. Bad stuff has always existed, and many artists of varying budgets are managing just fine… and often *also* nailing the TikToks!

Some decent/hard-to-argue points in here but IMO they're bogged down by quite a bit of ahistoricism/subjectivity/nostalgia, and it's maybe worth pointing out that Lizzo specifically is now several videos deep into a string of (by her previous standards) underperformers

@ArtHouseDirectr @medieninitiativ i used to + thinking of ways to get back to it! the week in advance requirement and telling students what your choice would be both sound great. also fun to discuss how y'all generally go about deciding what to watch (trailers? social media? rotten tomatoes? award nominations?)

Is this a bad idea? I am thinking about letting my students decide what films we screen in my Post-Cinema class. I provide the readings, students pick a movie to screen in advance, and start off the discussion of the movie in relation to the readings. Has anyone done this?
