It’s very difficult for the traffic police to force them to comply with respect to traffic lights. 1. Boda industry isn’t regulated. You don’t know who operates from where 2. They evade all requirements for obtaining driving licenses 3. They have no identification marks 4. In some countries, the road across where the traffic lights are has spikes. When the lights come on, the spikes are switched on automatically. If you drive through, the tyres of your MV/MC get deflated immediately. 5. Passengers on bodas in Uganda silently support their indiscipline. No passenger cautions the rider not to ride them in a manner that breaks the law. 6. These riders are so many at the traffic junctions against one or two traffic officers. You can imagine if you have to arrest them, who do you target and how successful can you be? 7. I am sure one boda mc can be ridden by more than 3 riders a day. It’s so difficult to track and pin one that has broken the law. 8. Politics has protected these riders for long. It’s high time we sensitize them to respect the Traffic and road safety act than appear to defend them ostensibly because they have mc loans etc.
