@sylvaingigan The optics community lost a friend, an innovator, collaborator, educator, and lost even more in what Gabi could have added to the field he loved if misfortune would not have cut short his plans. On 27/05 he delivered an inspired talk at the CC22 conference in Canterbury, so sad.

Just heard of the sudden passing of Prof. Gabriel Popescu, a giant of optical microscopy, a very kind and witty colleague and friend. We had lunch less than a month ago during his sabbatical in Paris😢My thoughts are with his family, colleagues, students and friends. RIP Gabi.
