It's incredible to think that grain is imported at harvest time into Ireland, that is what we face as a sector yearly now , no priority given to native produced grains in the market place-it's belittling and demoralizing and intolerable-where's the support from our Ag Industry?
Frontier Agriculture@FrontierAg

Here’s more quality UK grain being exported, this time to support demand in the Republic of Ireland. The MV Verlserdijk was recently loaded with barley at the Port of Tilbury, ready to make its way to Ringaskiddy in County Cork. 🚢 🌾

@Bill_Linnane I can't say whether is will be made law or not but I believe that government is obliged to protect the Irish tillage sector and can use any tools possible. The use of native grains such as Wheat is actively encouraged in Scotland.

@ahearn_liam Imports of supermarket produce we can and do grow happen and consumers don't care, so not sure 100% Irish grain matters to a lot of people outside the hardcore whiskey heads. An all-Irish barley or grain whiskey is a good thing but don't think it should be the law.

@Bill_Linnane 1. Some of the fruit and veg in supermarkets can't actually be grown here. 2. Imported grains or maize outside EU are grown using chemicals banned within EU. 3. Native grown grains are less carbon and are more sustainable. 4. Encouraging native grains protects Tillage Sector

@ahearn_liam Supermarkets are full of imported fruit and veg and I don't think consumers care all that much. Most people just care about price imho. I think a certification for brands that use 100% Irish grain in their whiskey would be great but not sure making it law would be a good idea.
