THE STORY BEHIND MY OUTFIT: Official Red Carpet Host, Back to the Source of the Nile The moment I got the call to be the official red carpet host for the Back to the Source of the Nile premiere, I sat down and told myself: “Zakia, you need to SHOW UP.” Because here’s the truth,when you’re holding the mic on that red carpet, you’re not just a host. You’re the first impression. You set the tone. You make or break the energy. So I knew my outfit couldn’t just be “nice.” It had to speak before I did. First, I needed to stand out. Respect the event. Respect the camera. Respect the moment. But second and this is KEY I needed my guests to feel comfortable. Think about it: You’re about to interview Uganda’s CEOs, artists, leaders. If they look at you and see confidence, class, and excellence… they relax. They open up. They get excited. A great outfit is the first compliment. And compliments? They’re the fastest way to break the ice. So I designed my own dress. Yes, I wore my work.Zakstyles by @Zakstyless And let me tell you what happened… Whoever I approached on that red carpet? They were already smiling. “Oh my goodness, you look AMAZING!” came first. The interview came second. It was effortless. I didn’t have to chase anyone. I didn’t have to convince anyone. The dress did the talking. And the best part? When I’d casually say, “Thank you. I’m actually a stylist, I made this,” nobody doubted it for a second. Their faces would light up: “It’s EVIDENT. You ARE the brand.” Phones came out. Numbers were exchanged. “I need you to dress me next.” Not one person turned me down. Not one. 100% yes. Why? Because I looked like the work I do. That’s the power of representing your brand. You can’t sell confidence if you don’t wear it. You can’t tell people you’re a stylist while looking ordinary. I knew the Back to the Source of the Nile premiere was my moment. Not just to host but to prove. To show up, take space, and make every single guest feel like they were talking to a star. Because when YOU show up right, it brings light to the carpet. It brings light to the room. It makes conversations flow. It makes people lean in. I made sure that statement was made. So to every creative, every stylist, every woman building a brand: DRESS LIKE YOU MEAN IT. Your outfit is your first pitch. Your first handshake.
