@CowboyLikeDawn @Missy_dee811 nyc owns the building and partially funds it but the met organization itself is a private nonprofit. nyc gov funds the building, exhibitions are funded through donations. the met gala traditionally has been the primary funder for the costume institute

@Missy_dee811 If it's an insitution that's meant for the greater good of the public, should it not be funded by the city of new york or donations instead of a fashion show and a party for the rich, famous and out of touch

@nikicaga Well there is a decent primary challenger this year right? The DSA guy who reps Memphis in the State Legislature? Seems more legit and well known locally than any other of his challengers.

This is why it's important to have a wattpad phase when you're 11-14 years old, so you don't have it in your late 20's

@strawb3rryaclck @Richard_Vixen no they aren’t, ‘50s wedding dresses sell for cheap on etsy, ebay, thrift shops, and consignment stores and people still aren’t buying them. if anything, people are buying them to recycle for their something old like in the video

@Richard_Vixen many women are very willing to pay a lot for a beautiful vintage wedding dress such as that, and probably would have been happy to buy it off her, and not chop it up into ugly shein dress.

@ekp12b @kaitybella i think it looks tacky but what would be the purpose of getting it properly fitted and cleaned when she clearly wanted a mini dress for her reception? the dress was just going to sit in the closet anyways

@kaitybella It was an elegant classic dress. All she had to do was get it properly fitted and cleaned but instead she made it ugly. It looks like a shein dress now

@moldbunny @kaitybella i bet you $5 that the dress was from a major department store that cranked out hundreds of similar dresses so definitely not priceless. the dress probably would’ve not sold on ebay anyways

@kaitybella Because it literally is a priceless antique. Fast fashion has completely ruined heirloom clothing and it’s genuinely rare to find things made with natural materials and also by an American person in America and not some disparaged third worlder

@kaitybella What the hell are you doing? You take a piece of clothing that's been passed down through generations and change everything about it? You'd have been better off buying your own dress.

@glowehwurm @kaitybella tons of wedding dresses have already been preserved so idk why you’re so up in arms. besides if the family wasn’t planning on giving it to the a museum/school or the institution didn’t want it then there is no reason not to alter it for a second use.

@kaitybella Because that's how fashion history works. Not just the significant dresses are preserved, but what people wore in their everyday life
