@tmkrishna Arms of the government?. T.N. Seshan: ECI is Elec. comm. of India, not the Govt. of India! Parties have enough clout, money, workers to gather facts file a petition and enough lawyers to argue their case. Question the parties why they are not doing their democratic duty first!

I usually avoid responding to singular tweets, but this one from the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs cannot be ignored. It is the right of every opposition party, in fact every citizen to question all the arms of government. Calling it an attack on democracy is against the very grain of democracy. This idea propagated by the present government that the entire opposition is a negative force is the real threat to democracy.
Kiren Rijiju@KirenRijiju

All opposition parties have attacked the Govt. Agencies, EVMs, Election Commission, Media & now targeting the Judiciary. They don't realise that they are attacking the core of Indian democracy. Wait, People of India will give them a befitting reply, teach lifetime lesson!

Civil servants owe their primary allegiance to the Constitution, not personal faith. Transforming a public office into a religious space undermines the secular foundation of our bureaucracy. Personal rituals belong at home, not at the desk of a public official. A public office represents all citizens, regardless of faith. To see it treated as a private shrine is a step backward for Indian administrative standards. Professionalism demands a secular workplace.

@yajnadevam And because of certain bias, and utilizing the fact that vedic is the oldest recorded language, you are ignoring the vibrant material culture of Sindhu-Sarasvati and the most likely scenario of recording material activities. You have to question the fundamentals!

Amazing. The Linear Elamite decipherment has none of the rigor of my Indus script decipherment. No complete corpus reading, no machine verified grammar, no preserved trace of the entire decipherment, no demands for rosetta stone, no demand for proof of correctness, no demands to try the method on a different language … yet no one questions it, nor the Kushana script or Linear B before. My Indus decipherment is mathematically the most rigorous, the most methodical and reproducible result and yet people have trouble accepting it. Ask yourself why despite meeting an asymmetrically higher standard you have so much opposition to it. france24.com/en/french-rese…

Stalin betrayed TN.
Jayaprakash Narayan@JP_LOKSATTA

Now that the 131st Amendment Bill failed, allocation of Lok Sabha seats will be based on 2026 census data. As per current estimates, seven States will likely lose 35 seats: AP (-5), Telangana (-3), TN (-10), Karnataka (-2), Kerala (-7), Odisha (-4), and WB (-4). Four States will likely gain 34 seats: UP (+12), Bihar (+10), MP (+5), and Rajasthan (+7). BJP is widely believed to be the potential beneficiary of redistribution of seats to States based on 2026 population. In a stunning act of self-denial, the NDA government came forward to freeze the current share of States based on the 1971 census data. There could be many reasons for BJP committing to such a freeze - putting the nation above the party, paving the way for expanding their footprint in the South, or avoiding a divisive issue when the nation has to focus on growth and prosperity in the face of global challenges. Whatever be the motivation of BJP, the seven States that lost share of population are offered an unexpected gift. You don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Surprisingly, the parties which have great stakes in the South and East have scored a spectacular self goal. This is a classic case of cutting the nose to spite the face. In 2001, as the freeze in seats was expiring, I was deeply involved in persuading the then Vajpayee government to continue the freeze in the number of seats allocated to States for another 25 years. An unwieldy coalition and the economic challenge posed by external sanctions after the Pokharan explosion demanded national unity, and the parties responded with the 84th Amendment. Now again a priceless opportunity arose, and the Opposition squandered it without any strategic thinking. If political animosity makes you oblivious of your own interest, or larger interests of fostering unity and focusing on growth and harmony, it is a sign of dysfunctional politics. I appeal to all parties to come together and find a harmonious solution to the thorny problem of seats allocation in the face of demographic imbalances. National unity and our quest for opportunity and prosperity for all demand a fair and swift resolution. In the long run migration will resolve the imbalances. Already millions of migrant workers are building and sustaining the economies of several States in the South, West and North. That is why, despite low fertility rate, Maharashtra's share of the population is increasing. In the US, dramatic internal migration changed the demography and representation over the years. People move freely to States where there is growth and jobs are created. In a century, Florida increased its representation in the US Congress from 4 to 28, California from 11 to 52, Texas from 18 to 38, and Washington from 5 to 10. Owing to outward migration, New York lost seats, from 43 to 26, Pennsylvania from 36 to 17, Illinois from 27 to 17, Ohio from 22 to 15, and Missouri from 16 to 8. We should make it easy for people to migrate to other States and recognize and respect their constitutional rights everywhere and make their life easier and safe. That will resolve our demographic challenges. Most states reached low fertility levels, and Bihar, UP, MP, Rajasthan and Jharkhand too are going to reach there in a few years. We need a reasoned and pragmatic approach to grow together and become strong. Let us persuade parties to shed inflammatory and divisive rhetoric and focus on quality education and skills and opportunities for all.

@MlecchasHunter @pathakDeek @avatans Koniger - kOn is King in tamizh and the "er" suffix is tamizh plural! And tamizh and European have not been looked at seriously. Some tamizh zeolots have suggested cognates - that's about it.

@pathakDeek @avatans A reconstruction is not proof of existence which is what you are trying to frame here. Original German used Guma for man, Hus and Grama have no real cognates. Gott has no relation with any other IE branch. King also has no relation and german theology is unrelated.

@avzaagzonunaada @JAJafri @subhash_kak @avatans grAma is dervied from kAma (tamizh) - kadirkAmam is a village at the southern tip of Srilanka. kAma means preference in Samskrit and from there it acquired a grouping sense. "r" consonant is a general addition done by Samskrit to many tamizh words!

It has been exactly 21 days or three weeks since the aerial assault of the US and Israel on Iran began. It has also been 23 days since the PM returned from his much-trumpeted visit to Israel. Has the Modi Govt condemned or criticised or deplored the launch of the heavy aerial assault on Iran by the US and Israel that has now led to severe economic dislocations everywhere including India? The answer is NO. Has the Modi Govt. condemned or criticised or deplored the targeted assassinations of top Iranian leaders by the US and Israel that continues unabated? The answer is NO. Has the Modi Govt. condemned or criticised or deplored the brutal efforts of the US and Israel to force a regime change and state collapse that could lead to civil war in Iran? The answer is NO. Has the Modi Govt mounted serious diplomatic efforts and initiatives to bring the bombing of Iran and Iran’s attacks on energy and other essential infrastructure in the Gulf countries to an immediate halt? Has the PM used his much-claimed friendship with the US President and the Israeli PM to bring about a cease-fire? The answer is NO. These 4 NOs reflect the moral cowardice and political betrayal of India’s civilisational values.

An ArcGIS map (N Riedel et al. 2021) of the neolithic & chalcolithic settlements of peninsular India with time-data. About 80% of the locations were settled by the posterior date of 1750 BCE. Ahar-Banas, Savalda, Ashmound I/II/III, Kayatha, Late Harappan and Jorwe are the cultures here. The mean precipitation data is modern and thus does not reflect the palaeo-dynamics in Central Karnataka which served as a central node. The ISM has weakened during the past 4000 years.
