TKD ECONOMY: Pakistan Working on “Trans-Afghan Railway” Project to Boost Regional Connectivity: PM Sharif Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Islamabad is working on the “Trans-Afghan Railway” project aimed at strengthening trade and enhancing regional connectivity. Speaking at the closing session of the 2025 Regional Transport Ministers’ Conference in Islamabad on Friday, Sharif said Pakistan is advancing several major railway initiatives, including the “Trans-Afghan Railway” and the Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul rail corridor. He stated, “Pakistan has now entered the second phase of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).” Sharif added that greater regional connectivity would open new trade routes and promote development across South and Central Asia. The “Trans-Afghan Railway” project, first proposed in 2018, is designed to link Termez in Uzbekistan with Mazar-e-Sharif, Kabul, and Peshawar, creating a key transport corridor between Central and South Asia.
