Children with gender distress may face bullying, isolation & family conflict, reasons to be alert to suicide risk. Empathic support is vital but evidence that puberty blockers reduce risk is weak & unreliable. Invoking suicide in this debate is mistaken & potentially harmful.

My experience with VR is that some of the more acutely unwell people don't want to try it. But others were intrigued and enjoyed it

In my experience admission there is usually about risk. I see people in the community who are as/more unwell. And with no beds it’s even more true now! Apart from refusal, capacity and consent is an issue. Appointments are virtually pointless for many. Most people I see are long term acutely unwell so potential harm matters. About 90% use substances. All barriers to *anything* requiring order
