NEW RELEASE RE: virtual care providers in the Emergency Department. The gist: No on-site ED physician = not an ED. Virtual support with on-call physician to come in is a hybrid model but not an actual ED. Virtual support for NP/PA/Medics with no on-site EM MD = not an ED.

Canada's emergency doctors question this growing trend to 'virtual ER' care. It's better than nothing but is it the way Canadians want their heart attack or stroke managed? See their release with the message "To call it an “ED” you must have a physician on site or nearby on call." caep.ca/breaking-news/

It should be a basic right in Canada that if you seek emergency care after injury, in distress or with acute illness that you will be attended to in a timely, professional and kind-hearted ER. This is what ER staff have gathered to fight for today. @alandrummond2 @CAEP_Docs

“A disaster is anything that outstrips your ability to deliver care”. And then by definition crowding can be viewed as a disaster (daily in Canadian emergency departments)
